"I giovani piloti stanno arrivando.
The Bathurst 12 Hour, staged on the Mount Panorama Circuit in Australia, is a 12 hour endurance race featuring GT3 cars. This event serves as the opening round to the Intercontinental GT Challenge Series in the real world.
We're proud to announce that the Volkswagen Beetle GRC car will be included in iRacing's upcoming rallycross feature as free content - coming Fall 2017.
Will we see more GRC cars and tracks in iRacing in future? Absolutely, in fact I just signed our first European Rallycross track, although we won't be able to collect the data to build it until the spring. Subaru will be joining us this year in our virtual Red Bull Global Rallycross series and that car is already in production. We also have a few rallycross configurations in the design process and we hope to have at least one new one in our March release. One of the great things about our business model is that we have four major releases a year so new content is pretty much coming out every three months. What's hard is balancing the release of content in the many forms of racing we now have at iRacing, which is another unique aspect of our product.
Grazie alla licenza ufficiale, saranno ovviamente riprodotti anche i piccoli circuiti ovali protagonisti della serie. iRacing Celebrates Announcement with Primary Sponsorship of Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell iRacing.com, the leading online racing game, announced today plans to add the world famous Tulsa Expo Raceway, home of the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire, to its extensive inventory of dirt tracks available to iRacing members. iRacing is currently at the temporary racing facility in Tulsa, OK laser scanning and gathering reference photography so that the track can go into production immediately. It is anticipated the track will be available this summer. In celebration of the announcement iRacing has partnered with Chili Bowl defending Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire champion and Oklahoma native Christopher Bell and NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series regular Kyle Larson to be the primary sponsor on each of their cars for the 2018 Chili Bowl. The partnership will introduce iRacing.com to the legions of dirt midget fans who will be watching this year’s event. Full story: http://www.iracing.com/?p=240871
10. This is a big and exciting release! It is jam packed with brand new cars, a brand new track, entirely new track configurations, brand new racing formats, and a truck-load of our usual fixes and updates. We are very excited, and we hope you are too! Some highlights include: • New License Classes • Heat Racing Mode • Red Bull Global Rallycross Series • Animated Pit Crew • Significant Stockcar Updates • Dirt Midget • Ford Fiesta RS WRC • VW Beetle GRC • Knoxville Raceway • Five Rallycross Track Configurations Full 2018 Season 1 Release details are below. Happy Holidays from all of us at iRacing, and have fun out on the track! iRacing.com is proud to announce that Knoxville Raceway will be available to purchase on December 5th. CHANGE LOG: License Classes - iRacing now has four unique License Classes! - - Each of the four licenses are completely separate from each other, and you will have your own Class, iRating, and Safety Rating in each. - - There is one license for each type of racing available: Oval, Road, Dirt Oval, and Dirt Road. - - - Your initial Dirt Oval License Class was granted to you based on an algorithm that took into account both your 2017 Oval License Class, and your 2017 participation in Official Dirt Oval races. Heat Racing - Heat Racing, a new format of racing competition has been added to iRacing! - - Heat racing is a system of competition that divides racers into different groups, or Heats, based on their qualification performance. Each Heat has its own winners and losers, and the best racers from each Heat will go on to compete against each other in the final session, the Main Event. Before that, the other racers from each Heat will go on to Consolation Races, where they may have a chance to earn themselves a spot in the Main Event! - - For detailed information on Heat Racing, check out this document: https://d3bxz2vegbjddt.cloudfront.net/dev/pdfs/2017-iracing-heat-racing-doc.pdf - You are able to create and join your own Hosted Sessions using the Heat Racing format! - - This option is only available in the iRacing Beta Interface! - - - To setup your own Heat Race: - - - - Click on: "Go Racing", then, "Create a Race", then, in the "Set Race Options" section, for the "Event Type", select "Heat Racing". Then, select one of the different configurations in the dropdown and finally purchase your session and join! - - Session time and price are calculated using the maximum possible value for the number of entrants, which would yield the maximum number of Heat sessions being run. Thus, the time is an estimated total of the time limits for each of the predicted sessions plus a small buffer to account for session transitions and gridding times. - - The cost for purchasing a Hosted Heat Racing Session has a 25% discount in addition to any other bulk discounts you may already recieve. Race Results - The in-Sim Race Results page has been reorganized to handle Heat Racing events, which can have many more sessions than just Practice/Qualify/Warmup/Race. If necessary, you can now scroll the Results left/right to reveal the results for the particular session of interest. Since all cars in the event are listed, yet only a subset of them actually drive in some of the sessions, you can sort the results for a particular session, thus grouping the cars that participated together, and pushing the cars that were not involved in that session to the bottom. Asphalt Oval Racing - A physics overhaul has been performed on our asphalt oval cars! - - For some extensive and detailed information, check out this link: - - - http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts/list/3582329.page#10803442 Dirt Oval Racing - The default value for the starting track state for Dirt Ovals in a Race session has been lowered slightly for most cars, and has been lowered significantly for the Non-Winged Sprint Cars. This change will affect Official Sessions and any hosted sessions where the starting state is not explicitly specified. - The default value for the starting track state for Dirt Ovals in Test, Practice, and Unattached Qualify sessions has been increased to make these tracks more closely match typical starting race conditions. Overall, you should expect the track for a Dirt Oval Practice session to have nearly the same starting usage as a Race session for the entry-level Dirt Oval cars. - The variability in default starting track states for Dirt Ovals has been increased, meaning that when a starting usage value is not explicitly given, the distribution of generated usage percentages is wider. This will result in more variety in starting track state in Official Sessions and any hosted sessions where the starting state is not explicitly specified. - Dirt Oval Track surface properties have been adjusted to reduce traction. - For some extensive and detailed information on the changes within Dirt Oval Racing, check out this link: - - http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts/list/3582313.page#10803079 Red Bull Global Rallycross Series - Welcome to the world of Rallycross! - - Rallycross is a form of racing that combines asphalt and dirt track sections into a short circuit, that also includes a dirt jump. There are limited penalties, no pit stops, and cars designed specifically for this racing format. - - Rallycross cars and tracks have been added to the iRacing repertoire! - - - Ford Fiesta RS WRC - - - VW Beetle GRC - - - Daytona circa 2007 (Rallycross - Long) - - - Daytona circa 2007 (Rallycross - Short) - - - Iowa Speedway (Rallycross) - - - Lucas Oil Raceway (Rallycross) - - - Phoenix International Raceway - 2008 (Rallycross) - On the "Host A Race" page on the membersite, when a track with a Joker Lap (currently only Rallycross tracks) is selected, a new option for selecting the "Number of joker laps" is displayed. Additionally, Full Course Cautions and fast Tows are both completely disabled, and Standing Starts is mandatory. Simulation - Headlights can no longer be disabled on Road courses at night. - The in-car slowdown penalty display now rounds up to the nearest tenth, so that "0.0" is never displayed for time remaining. Dynamic Track - Improved the method for calculating simulated tire activity during track initialization. Rendering - A new water shader has been implemented at Daytona circa 2007. This shader replaces the formerly static water effect with one which is reactive to the wind and uses current lighting techniques. - - Please look forward to this water shader seeping into other tracks later this season! Audio - A new Ambient Volume slider can be found in the Options menu. This will control sounds like fireworks and jet fly-overs. - Fixed a bug that was causing backfires to emit at the wrong location when watching a replay. Backfires and shift sound emission should now also stick to the car, rather than Doppler shifting away when viewing from inside the cockpit. Spotter - A brand new Spotter Pack, Cole Carter, the official spotter for Scott Speed, is now available in iRacing! - - This Spotter Pack is ready to assist in all types of racing, including all calls needed for Rallycross racing! - - - You may select which Spotter Pack iRacing uses in your Audio Options menu. - The default Aussie Spotter is ready to assist with Rallycross calls. - - Other Spotter Packs (except Cole Carter), are currently not setup to perform Rallycross calls. Pit Crew - iRacing has now finished hiring and training a highly experienced and fully animated pit crew to service some cars and trucks! - - NASCAR Camping World Chevrolet Silverado - - NASCAR Camping World Toyota Tundra - - NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Chevrolet SS - - NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Ford Fusion - - NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Toyota Camry - - NASCAR Truck Series Chevrolet Silverado circa 2013 - - NASCAR XFINITY Chevrolet Camaro - - NASCAR XFINITY Ford Mustang - - NASCAR XFINITY Toyota Camry - - - This super-fast and hardworking team will jump into action whenever you're pitting with one of the above vehicles on a track where that vehicle should be racing competitively. - War wagons for many stock cars have been updated! - - The war wagons should now have more detail, and randomly opened toolbox doors. - - - NASCAR Camping World Chevrolet Silverado - - - NASCAR Camping World Toyota Tundra - - - NASCAR K&N Pro Chevrolet Impala - - - NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Chevrolet SS - - - NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Ford Fusion - - - NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Toyota Camry - - - NASCAR Nationwide Chevrolet Impala circa 2011 - - - NASCAR Sprint Cup Chevrolet Impala COT circa 2013 - - - NASCAR Truck Series Chevrolet Silverado circa 2013 - - - NASCAR XFINITY Chevrolet Camaro - - - NASCAR XFINITY Ford Mustang - - - NASCAR XFINITY Toyota Camry Opponent Cars - Opponent car spec data has been updated for ALL cars. - - The results of this change may be visible on timed penalties (such as cutting corners). An accurate car spec is required to determine the amount of time gained by cutting a corner and hence the appropriate penalty. - Fixed an issue with the way some cars looked due to an error in weight distribution. Paint Kit - Improved font handling when painting cars. In-Sim Race Radio - Added the ability for the Sim to ask, within a radio script, whether or not the current session is either a Qualify Session or a Race Session (qual_or_race), or if the current event is a Heat Racing event (heats). - - See the "readme.txt" file located in your My Documents/iRacing/scripts/radio/ directory for more information. - Changed the default "StartDriving.txt" and "StopDriving.txt" radio scripts to mute/unmute @ALLTEAMS if "qual_or_race" is true. - - This change is ONLY applied if you do not have customized versions of these two radio scripts. If you have customized versions of these scripts, and wish to incorporate these changes, see the "readme.txt" file located in your My Documents/iRacing/scripts/radio/ directory for more information on how to use them. (You would basically add "if qual_or_race mute @allteams" to the "StartDriving.txt" file, and "if qual_or_race unmute @allteams" to the "StopDriving.txt" file.) Controls - A gold hand brake overlay has been added over the normal red brake bars shown during calibration and when in or out of your car. - - This overlay will only be present for our brand new Rallycross cars: the Ford Fiesta RS WRC, and the VW Beetle GRC. Virtual Reality - Fixed an issue where mirrors and environment maps were rendering with the incorrect cameras when Oculus Rift or Vive was active. The cars feature a handful of safety features including their own roll cages due to the dangerous nature of their power. The small vehicles weigh in around only 900 pounds but carry engines capable of 300 to 400 horsepower. Often used as a stepping stone to high profile divisions, Dirt Midget races can often feature drivers of high notoriety such as Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne, Kyle Larson, and others. 13. We all know that setups can become an important part of your official iRacing races. And let’s admit it, most of us don’t have a clue where to start when it comes to building or tweaking a car setup. So the majority out there is counting on the goodwill of those who do master the art of setup creation. But even then, it can become a tiresome quest trying to hunt for the right setup file. So now a creative iRacing member has created a very interesting tool to help us all find de preferred setup file for your car of choice. iRacing member Nick Thissen introduces the first official version of “iRacing Setup Sync (iRSS)” This is an application dedicated to iRacing setup sharing and downloading. iRacing Setup Sync (or iRSS for short) is a Windows application that attempts to automate most of the tedious work around storing and managing your setups. It operates on a large database of setups, which is synced to most of the popular Setup Shops on the forum and therefore always contains the latest setups, even those shared on the forums. It allows you to browse setups by car, track or team and automates downloading the setups into the correct folder, and it can even automatically download setups for the car / track you are driving right now! iRacing members can follow the development of Sync Setup or provide feedback to Nick at the iRacing forum thread. Download -> http://iracingsetups.nickthissen.nl/Client/iRacingSetupSync_installer.zip This version contains a normal installer which will install an iRacing Setup Sync Launcher application. The Launcher application will automatically update to the latest version and then launch iRacing Setup Sync. You can just use the Launcher application to start the application, if there is no update available it will just launch iRacing Setup Sync. Official iRacing Setup Sync website - http://iracingsetups.nickthissen.nl/ Important features: Automatically download recent setups for your current car / track, as soon as you start iRacing. Similar to Trading Paints – except for setups! Search setups by car, track or team and download the ones you don’t have yet. Compares your local setups with the online database setups to determine which setups you already own – there is no point in downloading duplicates! Subscribe to cars, tracks and teams and quickly search setups that match any of your subscribed items. Completely customizable directory and setup naming convention with macros like the setup author, car, track, season and many more. Operates on a vast database of over 1,000 setups which is continuously updated by setups added to the various Setup Shops around the forums, and by user uploads. (Soon) Upload the setups you used in a recent session (if you want to share them) with the click of a button. Setup database website & account The setups in the application come from an online database that can also be accessed via : http://iracingsetups.nickthissen.nl/ You will need to create an account on this website and use that to login to iRacing Setup Sync. Do not login with your iRacing credentials, you need to login with the iRacing Setups website credentials. I will make that more clear in the next version. Where do the setups come from and how up to date is the database? The setups come from the online database also available at http://iracingsetups.nickthissen.nl/. You will need an account to use iRacing Setup Sync, which you can create by registering at the website. You don’t need an account to download setups from the website however. The database also contains setups manually uploaded by many different users, but mostly consists of all the setups available in the Setup Shops in the iRacing forums. Since a few months ago, most of these setup shops are being generated with another application I wrote, which automatically syncs the setup shops with the online database. That means that (at least for the cars that have an active setup shop thread) the database will always immediately contain every setup shared on the forum! How does it work? iRacing Setup Sync takes a snapshot of the setups on your computer. When you search for setups, the setups in the online database are quickly compared to your local setups (this is done by hashing their contents – I cannot read your setups), and you will see which setups you are still missing. Automatically downloading setups when you are racing If enabled in the options, iRacing Setup Sync will monitor for iRacing activity. When you start iRacing while iRacing Setup Sync is active (either visible or minimized to the background as a system tray application) it will detect which car and track you are driving and automatically search (and download) matching setups from the current season. As soon as you are connected you can go to your Garage and find the most recent setups in your download folder, ready to go. The application only very briefly checks for iRacing activity every 5 seconds so that it has a negligible impact on your racing experience. You can turn it off by closing it from the system tray when you start racing to be absolutely sure, but it should not be necessary. In a future update I will add automatic support for this. Finding setups by Subscribed items Once you have subscribed to cars, tracks, teams or groups (see below), visit the Subscribed tab to quickly search for setups that match your subscriptions. Click the ‘Find subscribed setups’ button to start searching. For example: if you are subscribed to the Ford GT – this will find any setups (that you do not yet own) for the Ford GT. Subscribe to your favorite cars and tracks to quickly get all of the new setups available. Finding setups by car, track, team or group If you want to look for setups manually by car, track, team or group simply visit the corresponding tab on the left side of the application. Use the dropdown to select your car, track, team or group and the setup list will be refreshed with matching setups. Use the Season dropdown at the top-right to filter by season. Setups that appear gray have already been detected on your computer, you don’t need to download them again. You can also see their location if you want to find them. You can still check the checkbox for these setups and download them again if you wish. Downloading the found setups Once you found some setups via your subscribed items or by searching for cars, tracks, teams or groups, you can hit the ‘Download selected setups’ button to add the selected (checked) setups to your current download list. Visit the Downloads tab to view your download list, and click Start to start automatically downloading the setups in the list. Options, setup location and naming Downloaded setups will be placed in the correct directory for each car, possibly under a further sub-directory if specified in the Options, with a name that follows the naming convention you specified in the Options. You can choose your directory under the Download Options tab, relative to the directory of the car that the setups are for. The default is ‘SetupSync’, so setups for (for example) the BMW Z4 GT3 would be placed under ‘iRacing/setups/bmwz4gt3/SetupSync/…” The name of the setup can be specified in the Setup Naming tab. You can use many different ‘tags’ or macros like {car}, {track}, {madeby} that will be replaced with the relevant values for each setup. For example, I like to call my setups by the person who made them, then the season and then whether it’s a race or qualify setup (eg “NickThissen_14S2_Q”), and I want a separate directory for each track: so I use the format “{track}/{madeby}_{season}_{type}”. You can select your favorite format from the list, or specify a custom format. What are teams and groups?A Team is a private team consisting of members and administrators. You can upload setups for your private team on the http://iracingsetups.nickthissen.nl/ website, those setups will only be visible to your team members. Create and configure your teams on the website. A Group can be used to group setups together. The setups in a group are publically accessible (if you want to control who has access to them, use a team instead). You can add multiple contributors to a group who can add setups to that group. Group support might be removed in a later update because it is almost never used. Updates Version 2.1 - Added support for automatic updates. - Added donate button by popular request (see Options page). - Added support for grouping setups. - Fixed setup naming convention save bug. Troubleshooting If there is a crash when running the new launcher, try running it as an administrator. Running as admin should not be required to just run iRacing Setup Sync, but it may be required when it needs to update. Known issues- Window shadow remains for a few seconds when you close it (click it to make it disappear). - Subscribing to teams is broken. - Nick has a very cheap shared webserver which may not be able to cope with a large demand. 14. Commenti sul forum. iRacing and Red Bull Global Rallycross today announced a partnership that will bring official Red Bull GRC racing to the premier online eSport racing game. Rallycross’s unique style of combined dirt and asphalt racing and tight, fender-to-fender racing will complement iRacing’s vast offering of motorsport formats including NASCAR, IndyCar, sportscars, dirt oval and more. Expected to be available later this year, iRacing’s Red Bull GRC will debut with multiple cars and tracks as well as an exciting new race format – heat racing. Just as in the real world series, the heat format combines multiple short races where competitors battle to qualify for the final. iRacing previously announced that the Volkswagen Beetle GRC car will be available in iRacing – free to all members. In addition to the VW, iRacing has also licensed and built the Ford Fiesta RS WRC racecar which will be available for purchase when Rallycross becomes available in the online racing service. Initially there will be four GRC tracks with five separate configurations available to iRacing members – Daytona International Raceway (x2), Iowa Speedway, Gateway Motorsports Park and Lucas Oil Raceway. These purpose built tracks replicate the challenges Red Bull Rallycross drivers face – multiple track surfaces, jumps, hairpin turns and more. iRacing’s dynamic tracks surfaces change lap after lap, just like in the real world and the dirt surface model replicates the ever changing conditions of a rallycross track. “This is a really exciting announcement for iRacing fans all around the world,” said Steve Myers, executive vice president and executive producer. “Being able to combine dirt and asphalt racing, plus the changing tracks conditions is something we have been working on for quite a while now and to see it come alive with Red Bull Global Rallycross is amazing.” “We have been working with iRacing for some time now, collaborating to develop the tracks and working with drivers to ensure the cars perform just as they do in the real world,” said Chip Pankow, founder and COO, Red Bull Global Rallycross. “iRacing will be a great way for our fans to experience Red Bull Global Rallycross in way they have never before – getting on track and racing. I know our fans will love it!” A number of top Red Bull Global Rallycross drivers are already iRacing members and have collaborated to help develop the project. Multi-time Supercar champion Scott Speed was an integral part of the development process, offering feedback to developers to help refine the simulation. Red Bull GRC drivers have competed in numerous top-tier iRacing events, including the iRacing.com World Championship Grand Prix Series and the iRacing Pro Race of Champions. iRacing and Red Bull Global Rallycross also plan to make full use of the partnership and development tools iRacing has available. Designing, setting up and testing course configurations in iRacing will be a useful tool that will save both time and money for the series in the coming years. iRacing plans to release Red Bull Global Rallycross later this year.

The Mazda iRacing ‘Virtual-2-Reality’ Driver™, Glenn McGee - Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Global Mazda MX-5 Cup, Rounds 11 & 12 Hard to believe it’s been a year since going from ‘Sim-to-Real’; from the digital-based, iRacing Mazda MX-5 Cup Championship; to the ‘real-world’, Battery Tender Global Mazda MX-5 Cup, presented by BFGoodrich Tires; and thanks to iRacing and my partner’s support, I continue my Pro-Racing career competing in the Mazda Global Challenge (Oct. 12-15) for a $110,000 prize purse [$75,000 to the winner] against some of the best up-n-coming drivers in the world!
Just an update. Our Rally Cross project is still coming along nicely. It is looking like the initial launch will be two cars and three or four circuits. Not sure on the exact timing but it should be this year. Probably within about a month, we can give a better window for the release. We also are making good progress on the much-requested feature, new license capability. For example, adding both a dirt oval and dirt road (rally cross) license including iRating & Safety Rating etc. It has taken a while as our whole system, database, license and skill structure was hard-coded for just road and oval licenses. However a good shot we will have the new licenses (dirt oval & dirt road) in our next season build. We also are working on heat racing functionality for both official racing and hosted racing. Much more on this soon but this new functionality also has a good chance of rolling out this year. We are ideally rolling this capability out with Rally Cross racing for example. We would also set up some dirt oval and short track pavement series with this new functionality! (When the timing is right, for example at the start of a new season). Although each series does things a little differently, heat racing generally would work very similar to the way it works in the real world and includes some nice functional flexibility. Heat racing, for those not familiar, is short races leading up to the main feature race (A-Main) or the consolation race (B-Main). In iRacing, the mini-tournament would all be part of a single session and the whole thing might last for example 45 minutes. For official racing, it would still be part of an overall series. There also are much more really great projects in development obviously (more on those later) besides the LMP1 Cars we announced today but I thought I would update on rally cross and a couple projects that are related.

McLaren has become the first Formula 1 team to enter the esports arena, announcing World’s Fastest Gamer – the world’s most intense and demanding competition for virtual racers. It’s a contest that will see the winner offered the best job in esports – a role with the Formula 1 team as one of its official simulator drivers. McLaren is partnering with iRacing to host a four-week online series featuring the McLaren MP4-30 Formula 1 car where the winner will earn an invitation to the World’s Fastest Gamer Finals to be held in November at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey, UK. Thanks to the unprecedented access to McLaren’s CAD files and data, iRacing’s digital McLaren MP4-30 incorporates current Formula One technology at a level never before seen in sim racing. As a result, iRacing redesigned its engine model to incorporate the ERS and MGU as well as the accompanying energy “storage” and “depletion”. As well, implementing the DRS necessitated the creation of overtaking zones based on a competitor’s proximity to the car ahead. In short, iRacing’s McLaren MP4-30 is the most sophisticated digital race car yet created and represents an exciting new frontier for sim racing. Suzuka Circuit September 12 – 18 One of the world’s truly great race tracks, Suzuka has been the home of the Japanese Grand Prix since the 1980s and its flowing layout regularly puts the circuit at or near the top of the list of most Formula One drivers’ favorites. As if that weren’t enough, Suzuka boats three different configurations – Suzuka East, Suzuka West and Suzuka Full, the latter two featuring a rare figure eight layout where the back straightaway crosses the front section track on an overpass. Circuit of the Americas September 19 – 25 It can fairly be said that American road racing entered the 21st century with the debut of Circuit of the Americas as host of the 2012 U.S. Grand Prix. The first facility in the United States designed specifically for Formula One, CoTA (as it is familiarly known), was conceived by promoter Tavo Hellmund and World Motorcycle Champion Kevin Schwantz and designed with the assistance of noted race circuit architect Hermann Tilke. Autodromo Nazionale Monza September 26 – October 2 Known to racing aficionados and car buffs alike simply as “Monza,” the Autodromo Nazionale Monza is among the most fabled motor racing circuits in all the world. Constructed in Monza’s Royal Villa park in the early 1920s, the circuit has hosted the Italian Grand Prix Formula One race every year but one since the series’ inception and holds the record for the fastest (153.842mph/247.585kph) and closest finish (.18s covering the top four) in Formula One history in 2003 and 1971, respectively. Autódromo José Carlos Pace October 3 – 9 Interlagos (or as it is officially known, Autódromo José Carlos Pace in memory of the Brazilian driver who perished in a 1977 plane crash) is among the most celebrated of all Formula One circuits. Known for its serpentine layout and dramatic elevation changes, the circuit has been the home of the Brazilian Grand Prix since 1973 but for the period from 1978-1989. 23. We learned that there is a tremendous value for virtual racing as it has taught Alex so much about Race Craft. This was very important as the 1500 or so races online, combined with countless practice laps have placed Alex in many situations that could and would occur on the real race tracks. In one of the videos tagged in this you’ll see how Alex instinctively used the throttle to avoid a wreck instead of the panic brake option. This came from avoiding so many incidents online and it was a second nature reaction. He came in with so much awareness about every aspect of racing than your normal rookie. His understanding of the car’s handling tendencies was far beyond anyone’s knowledge who would be climbing into a race car for their first time. This same set of knowledge was also applicable to changing the driving style or turn entry to be able to roll the chassis to the outside drive wheel.
In short, I believe that simulator practice is a fantastic way to prepare before a race weekend. It carries a great number of benefits with it, it can be extremely fun–and it’s so much more than simply ‘playing a game’. In my opinion, any serious driver who doesn’t already utilise this tool is missing out. By the way, I’ve chosen the tyre pressures, and the session starts in five minutes.
