Guest jeffong_hk Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 (edited) hello all, just bought NetKar Pro today, hoping to get a few tips here to get me started. I am wondering how do i downshift smoothly in this game. i have the driving force gt, so i don't have a clutch so i cannot heel and toe. i find it especially hard to downshift at higher rpms with the f1600 since it doesn't auto blip nor can i blip it without a clutch pedal. are there experts here to give me some tips on that? like is there an auto blip setting or something? I also find that the wheel lock up quite easily. i was on 80% brake multiplier. are the brakes just so powerful that it locks the wheels up very easily when its at relatively low speed and that i just need to be more gentle to it? or did i not calibrate it properly? any other useful tips would be awesome =) Edited July 16, 2011 by jeffong_hk
Guest CAR Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 (edited) Hi, Jeff? There's no auto-blip, but you blip the throttle on downshifts a little bit (I think around 20%). The Formula Fords (F16/1800's) do lockup easily, so when you start to lock just release the brakes a bit. If you keep the same amount of brake pressure on you'll just sail off the race track, as there's no downforce to slow the car down like with the other single-seaters in the game. As for other tips I'm not really sure what will improve your experience, although when driving the F1800 I like to enable hardmode FFB, but you may need to turn your FFB down a little if you do (as the name suggests it's harder =)). In C:\nkpro13\cfg\ you'll see the nkpro.ini file, & in it is the line: [FORCEFEEDBACK] HARDMODE=0 Set this to 1 to enable hardmode FFB, and back to 0 if you want to disable it (as it isn't meant to be realistic for the F2000, FTarget etc.) Edited July 16, 2011 by CAR

BoNI Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 if you don't have a clutch pedal, is even easier the blip.. however, the differential settings can drastically change behavior in downshifting. if you want you can try the setup of the F1800, attached to MDCBox ...
Guest CAR Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 (edited) Hi car. sadly i use a driving force gt and have no clutch for me to do heel toe and blip during downshift. any solutions to this? Here is a paragraph from a Formula BMW driving guide I found a while back: 1.3 Proper Downshifting: Ideally you will be a left foot braker, but this is not essential. Left foot braking is quicker if done properly, however it is more important to be smooth. Right foot brakers like Barrichello and Vasser are very smooth and are still very quick. Left foot braking also makes blipping the throttle on the downshift easier. This is important for both preserving the engine and the gearbox, plus to maintain stability at the rear of the car. When downshifting, blip the throttle just a little, about 20%. Please see the throttle trace on the following page for proper throttle blipping. Be careful not to down shift too early as this may damage the engine by causing it to exceed its operating rpm range. Edited July 16, 2011 by CAR
Wally Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 I also find that the wheel lock up quite easily. i was on 80% brake multiplier. are the brakes just so powerful that it locks the wheels up very easily when its at relatively low speed and that i just need to be more gentle to it? or did i not calibrate it properly? You can also reduce the brake multiplier in the car setup from 80% to something lower. I have a clutch but virtually never use it (other than at starts and to stop from stalling on spins). I don't think I necessarily blip much either on downshifting. It's mostly about rev matching, I think.
Guest jeffong_hk Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 i understand the purpose and how to rev match downshift. my problem is though, since my DFGT has no clutch and a sequential shifter (button/stick). when i play with auto clutch and simple gears OFF, i cannot downshift unless i wait for the revs to drop and the shift is not smooth. i can downshift smoothly with auto clutch ON and simple gears OFF. because when i press the button to downshift, i can see on the bottom left corner, a blue bar representing the clutch appears, and i know that i can blip the throttle to rev match. and i can downshift smoothly with this setting i don't quite know what simple gears do to be honest, with auto clutch oFF and simple gears ON, i keep stalling and couldn't start the car. :imbarazzato: so..are there ways with a sequential shifter (not H shifter) to downshift smoothly with all aids OFF? because from my understanding, rev matching for downshifts will always require you to blip the throttle because at the same speed, the lower gear will always have a higher rpm. or can i only resort to the auto clutch for this? (since my equipment does not have a clutch)
Guest McSaltens Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 yes simply break with left foot and when you press the downshift button also press thottle. quite easy and effective.

(since my equipment does not have a clutch) Simple gear allows you to upshift without lifting the throttle, but I don't use it, because it's shiny & bright =) Like Wally I have a clutch but rarely use it, I quickly shift down to neutral when I spin to prevent the stall. I dunno if this will help you but here's a vid' of me driving the final lap of an F1800 race (badly ) Auto-clutch/simple gear off & I'm not using the clutch:
Guest jeffong_hk Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 ah ic...i have no neutral since my equipment is sequential gear only, no H shifter. looks like its auto clutch for me only. btw how do i record a lap like that, is there an addon or something. i'm thinking i should record a lap or something and post it so people can help me improve or something
