Guest nicolas30on Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 (edited) Hi there! Just seen the latest FVA gameplay videos! To be honest i was puzzled a bit as i initially thought FVA as a free ferrari promotion for things to come later in netkar.(I still hope that content in FVA finds somehow its way in netkar-it would make netkar a far better deal in the eyes of a LOT of simmers out there) The f1 model sure looks sweet and the hands animations and head movement looks very nice too.But i was sort of let down of the rest of the game's graphics as i had higher expectations... I mean still no bloom or hdr lighting(and time of day settings). The laser scanned track has great looking terrain but still the terrain is not covered by grass, trees are still 2d and there are no 3d animated spectator or crew something that could bring life in the track. And i know i am nitpicking but the animations for the hands didn't have moving fingers when shifting the paddles...( I am spoiled by Gtr evo/race on ) If you read this Kunos i know those things cannot be implemented easily but i believe it was a lost opportunity to stun the sim world.I mean in the worst case scenerio you could pick some ready high quality 3d trees and 3d spectators/crew from a 3d marketplace (www.turbosquid.com,etc....).And for adding grass unless i am mistaken its just a algorithm to have bunches of 2d bitmaps with variable scaling. Also as netkar has great mechanical damage its a pity it was not included...(also about my idea of having the material of the body of open wheelers defined as glass so to sort of shutter (but with increased the needed force to break) like carbon fiber,is it feasible or will it bring a hell of a lot of problems ? I hope eventually you find the time to improve netkar on those aspects.(and i also wish you think about adding some real normal cars too) Edited September 10, 2010 by nicolas30on
kunos Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 i hope i'll get the chance to work on those too
Guest nicolas30on Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 (edited) Hi there ! Thanx for giving the best answer i could have Kunos ! I know most of the above things need a lot of work(you can take a shortcut by using some pre-modeled assets (Still they would need animations(ie spectators/crew)). But trust me on this one the response netkar pro will receive from an impressed sim world would be worth all the hard work !!! Edited September 11, 2010 by nicolas30on
Guest nicolas30on Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 And by the way you probably have looked upon this but there are some very interesting articles and actual code examples for graphics effects at http://www.gamerendering.com (Examples for waving grass, volumetric smoke/clouds/particles,real time lighting, character animations, soft shadows....etc...)
henrizio Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I mean still no bloom or hdr lighting(and time of day settings). The laser scanned track has great looking terrain but still the terrain is not covered by grass, trees are still 2d and there are no 3d animated spectator or crew something that could bring life in the track. And i know i am nitpicking but the animations for the hands didn't have moving fingers when shifting the paddles...( I am spoiled by Gtr evo/race on Netkar supposed to be racing simulator, not a car game. When you race door to door you shouldn't have time to count leaves from tree. Live For Speed looks worse than Netkar, but even those graphics are enough for enjoyable sim racing. Graphics are really not in toplist what to do. I think you are in wrong game if you want to drive and watch trees and spectators.
Guest McSaltens Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Hi Kunos and a huge thanx for replying ! You are right that vertex deformations would look silly or out of place on todays race cars and carbon fiber f1 cars. But on normal cars its a good looking and easy to implement solution i believe. Also i don't know how difficult it is to implement but wouldn't a algorythm for glass shattering be perfect for carbon fiber parts with the exeption having the force required to shatter the glass increased. I just checked the ferrari virtual academy and my god the f1 models are out of this world! I cant wait to try it ! I hope the animations of hands/suits are as good as the models look!(As well as look to apex/angle of view implemented) But i do hope that bloom/hdr lighting with time of day and grass covered tracks are things you are going to add in the future...I know its eye candy and physics are what matters but nice graphics do help the sim. Also when i talked about "fictional" normal cars i meant real cars photorealisticaly modeled but with fictional names and badges to bypass licensing problems. OMG you are trying to convert netkar into rfacotr alike :S xD just hope hdr and bloom are never implemented since i hate how unrealistic does nfs or other bloom hdr games look to me crap and no needed prefer to have more fps for more cpu physics calculations

Also have in mind a lot of the stuff i suggested are not very demanding at all...A real time lighting system (with changing time of day) has more to do with programming, grass is not very taxing as it consists of 2d bitmapped textures...And 3d trees and animated 3d spectators/crew could easily be implemented as toggable options!.The same with bloom and hdr effects... As i said it has to do more to with good programming and having options to toggle on/off those effects(like in the place of 2d trees and spectators have 3d animated ones for example ) Edited September 16, 2010 by nicolas30on
Guest McSaltens Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 as i said to me looks like you want gtr evo or need for speed with netkar physics why dont you ask those developers to improve physics? rather than converting netlar into one ot those arcades.. all these things you are asking, in fact are not important, since you wont even look at that after couple hours of racing, i think netkar graphics are good enough for a race simulation. what really care is have more cpu and performance for physics calculations than for a bit of crowd on the stands or that sort of stuff , you simply cant have it all in a simulation, its good to improve graphics, why not but please dont ask for those fake things like bloom, and hdr its like adding fake bumps in a track..

I am sorry I dont comment too much but i had to after I saw your smart comment. I totally agree with nicolas30on , he is one who cares and wants netkar pro to improve a great sim it is already, unlike you, who says you dont need all this 'stuff' , go ahead stay where you are and dont even think to make it better. Comments from people like you make the pc games worse. You callin GTR EVO arcade? that becouse you cant drive it? all simbin titles are pure simulators that have even less better graphic than netkar . please dont call it 'all this other' games when you dont know what you are talkin about. You are right about NFS , probably becouse thats the game you need to play . Edited September 17, 2010 by mikelt
