La giornata di oggi potrebbe rivelarsi come quella della svolta per Le Mans Ultimate. Insieme all'uscita del secondo pacchetto DLC, che aggiunge altre due Hypercar ed il circuito del COTA, Motorsport Games ha rilasciato un importante aggiornamento gratuito, con una serie di cambiamenti descritti in una lunga nota di rilascio pubblicata nel pomeriggio.

We can all remember starting a race and having to pause the progress to go to sleep or to go to school! Now you will be able to save your Single Player races at the pitstop, and pick up and resume at another time. The second pack goes on sale alongside the September update. In this drop we complete the Hypercar grid with the Alpine A424 and Isotta Fraschini Tipo 6 and bring you the stateside showpiece – the Circuit of the Americas or COTA to you and I. The pack is on sale at an early access price of just £9.99 / €11.99 / $12.99 or you can purchase the Season Pass for £39.99 / €46.99 / $48.99. The pass will offer a saving of almost 25% compared to purchasing all four packs individually. The two larger, more expensive LMGT3 packs will be coming next.
Regardless of whether or not you purchase any 2024 packs, you’ll be able to race against the 2024 grid in Le Mans Ultimate. Further information and content on the remaining two individual packs will be teased and revealed ahead of each release, with the drops expected in late Q4 and Q1 2025.

The introductory price set on the launch of the game will be the lowest during the Early Access period. On the 1st October – due to more content and features being added to the game, the base game price will rise to £28.99 / €34.99 / $37.99. La prima novità che balza agli occhi degli appassionati di simracing più attenti è probabilmente la modalità VR embrionale del gioco. Sebbene la compatibilità VR sia ancora in versione beta, le funzioni anti-aliasing multisample, l'interfaccia utente del gioco e l'heads-up display in pista sono ora funzionanti mentre si è alla guida. Bisogna ammettere che LMU funziona già più che bene in VR, considerando che la modalità è ancora in beta, ed è anche facile da utilizzare. La visuale in pista è nitida e scorre fluidamente, allo stesso modo del "papà" rFactor 2.
Anche con impostazioni grafiche medie, tuttavia, si notano cali di frame rate nel momento in cui sullo schermo ci sono molte auto, oppure quando si passa dal giorno alla notte. È comprensibile che sia necessaria una maggiore ottimizzazione, ma è comunque un ottimo inizio. Anche l'HUD e i menu di gioco funzionano bene, ma a volte l'interfaccia utente si blocca o sfarfalla, causando occasionali crash del gioco. Naturalmente, se si verificano problemi di frame rate, è opportuno regolare anche le impostazioni grafiche che consumano meno CPU, come le ombre e il numero di veicoli visibili.
Come detto, ricordiamoci che si tratta ancora di una release beta, ma consigliamo sicuramente a tutti di provare l'esperienza in VR. Il procedimento per giocare a Le Mans Ultimate in VR è semplice: clic con il tasto destro del mouse sull'icona LMU su Steam, clic su "Proprietà", clic su "Generale" e in 'Opzioni di avvio' digitare '+VR'.
Altra novità molto interessante della patch odierna è rappresentata dalla modalità cooperativa asincrona: si tratta di eventi a tre piloti in cui ogni partecipante può completare il proprio stint in un momento a lui comodo! In pratica possiamo competere contro avversari controllati dall'IA, passando da un amico all'altro in modo asincrono, ovvero non è necessario che ogni pilota sia online contemporaneamente. I team possono scegliere tra un menu di scenari di gara nel gioco, competere nell'evento e poi calcolare un punteggio che verrà inserito in una classifica online.
Un team cooperativo in Le Mans Ultimate può essere formato da tre piloti, ma un evento cooperativo può essere completato anche da un team di soli due. L'obiettivo basilare è vincere la gara, battendo gli avversari controllati dall'IA. Ma c'è un ulteriore incentivo a puntare alla vetta della classifica online: la simulazione assegna punti squadra, in base al risultato, ai sorpassi dell'IA e alla condotta pulita. Una volta calcolati, questi verranno aggiunti a una classifica online per ogni evento cooperativo. È interessante notare che in futuro potrebbe essere proprio questo il modo per partecipare alla competizione eSport Le Mans Virtual Series: "In futuro, [questo] potrebbe essere utilizzato per qualificarsi per gli eventi, come la 24 Ore di Le Mans Virtuale o per premi", ha affermato il CEO di Motorsport Games, Stephen Hood.
Al momento si tratta di una versione "beta" della funzionalità cooperativa, con requisiti minimi per i driver, che si spera il team di sviluppo intenda implementare in futuro. Inoltre al momento è possibile utilizzare questa modalità di gara in squadra solo per gli eventi già preconfezionati dagli sviluppatori e presenti nel menu di gioco. Inoltre è necessario essere connessi a un account RaceControl per partecipare agli eventi cooperativi.
