After Barnes' SD quality FIA intro sting mod (replacing the original sting.bik in \Codemasters\F1 2011\Video\) I thought the game needed a true HD intro video. Because, y'know, why not?

This copy is sourced from the BBC HD coverage of the Singapore race with some very subtle editing by me at either end to neaten it up. And so, in the tradition of bootlegs...

Lineage

Original encode:

1. BBC HD (SkyHD 1080i)
   
2. MKV: x264 1080i @ 1.333 PAR (effective resolution 1440x900) / AAC 2.0
   

I got it and did the following:

1. Clipped FIA sting from source video using mkvtoolnix (no reencoding)
   
2. Imported into VirtualDub 1.9.9 (transcoded to AVI with Lagarith lossless intermediary codec / PCM 16bit 48kHz audio)
   
3. Sony Vegas 9 render to Lagarith / PCM, deinterlacing and adjusting PAR to 1:1 (effective resolution of 1920x1080)
   
4. Bink encode to 2 Mbps w/ Quality 0 audio (perceptually lossless)
   
5. Subtle fadein and fadeout on audio, held final frame of F1 logo and manual video fade to black
   

This copy shouldn't end quite as abruptly as there was more clean audio at the end of the clip. I also topped and tailed the audio to remove ambient noise without it sounding awkward and I also held the final F1 logo before fading it out (as the Singapore coverage crossfaded to a helicopter shot of the track). So for those who want a Full HD version of the logo to enjoy before the game starts... Here it is.

Kudos to Barnes for inspiring me to spend 40 minutes doing this last night! :-)

Instructions: replace sting.bik in your \Codemasters\F1 2011\video\ folder. Back up / rename the original file in case you want to switch back to the original video.
