In the last newsletter we talked about the new prosumer level VisionRacer VR3 "R36" which is soon to be released. We thought we would give an insight into the development of the new high end VisionRacer models. The availability of quality high spec peripherals has come a long way since the Logitech Driving Force Pro wheel & two pedal system. Fanatec have raised the bar with a full range of entry level to prosumer wheels & pedals. And for professional level controls, low volume manufacturers have given us the flexibility to mix & match specialist steering systems, wheels, pedals & shifters.


VisionRacer VR3 "R35" Rigs

A commission to build two training systems for the NZ FIA representatives allowed us to develop the base VisionRacer VR3 with a range of high spec items. We called this custom system the VisionRacer VR3 “R35”. This system included a high torque force feedback steering system used by professional level race teams & in this case the CST F1 pedals. Mated to this was a TSW sequential shifter & integrated 32 function button box.

The R35 system is using rFactor which has one limiting feature, the fact it only supports a maximum of 3 USB input devices. Each custom peripheral use's its own separate USB input, as opposed to a single USB input controlling the wheel, pedals, shifter & buttons. This requires careful consideration as to how many USB devices are employed & the priority each device is given by the game.
We solved the issue of one too many controllers by hardwiring the button box directly into the pedal controller reducing the number of USB devices back to 3. The "R35" has served as the development base for the "R36". The next client required a very detailed system which had to be adapted for his 6‘ 3” frame, higher wheel driving position & desire for the best peripherals & flexibility available.

So expect to see a flexible wheel position, pro level load cell pedals, a dashboard where instruments, buttons & switches can be mounted, a new motion platform, pro level gate or sequential shifter & 3rd party seat compatibility.
