VELOCIPEDE
BMW E92 M3 GT2 http://www.simraceway.com/cars/1778?locale=en&manufacturer_id=22 At the end of 2006, due to homologation issues with their super-exclusive M3 GTR, BMW decided to pull out of the ALMS. The company has a rich and feverish history of motorsport though, and when they released the brand new E92 M3 in 2008, it wasn’t a question of if the M3 would return to ALMS, it was a question of when. After all, BMW won the first race in ALMS history with the BMW V12 LMR. BMW decided to rejoin the fray in 2009, the 10th anniversary of the ALMS. There were no homologation issues this time, as the M3 was based off the standard US-spec M3, thus retaining features like the 4.0L V8 and carbon fiber roof. Even under strict ALMS engine regulations, the 4.0L makes over 450hp and 350tq, which is now transferred through a sequential 6 speed gearbox as opposed to the 6 speed manual and M-DCT ‘boxes available in the road car. The brakes are enlarged to 14.9” up front and 14” in the rear, surrounded by 18” RAYS magnesium wheels shod in Dunlop racing rubber.
