The Mercedes 300 SEL 6,3 results from an idea of Erich Waxenberger, who tried to implant the engine from the Mercedes 600 (W 100) to the Coupe-chassis of the W 108. At least this car appeared as a stretched Sedan designated W 109, with impressing driving performances, which even outranged those of the Porsche 911 S. Waxenberger as well tried to initiate the car at race-events, but failed at the training of the 24 Hours of Spa Franchorchamps in 1969 with technical problems. The cars were sold to AMG, Klaus Behrmann and the Finnish driver Urpo Lahtinen. Those further developed cars were serious competitors at the touring car sports despite their heavy size and weight. The AMG-Mercedes earned its especially fame with the denomination-victory and the seccond place at the overall-classification at Spa in 1971.

This fascinating car was missing at the fleet of cars in GTL up to now. Beni kindly passed his material over to me, to bring it into the game. I had the luck to proselite a team of first-class-specialists for the collaboration at this project, to which I would like to supply my kindly respects and thanks at this place.

In alphabetical order:

Beni, who created the genuine 3d-modell,

Citytea, who not only generated the sound of the car, but as well was responsible for textures and masks and simulated the optional automatic gearing,

Cooky, who was originating the marvellous 3d-modells of the cockpit and their paintings, as well he was a steady authority with helpful hints and improvements,

Hasi, who modelled the wheels, was busy on countless other construction-parts and all the time did not refuse to help as well with technical hints,

MentalGear, who created a physics to fall in love with, that in a fascinating way conciliates the feeling, to move an enourmous heavy and strong car.

For my person there were a lot of things to construct, add, and optimise, to finally bring it into the game. I learned a lot for (hopefully) future projects with the help of all the other participants.

----Installation-

Unpack the file "Mercedes_300_SEL.rar (zip) to the main-folder of GT-Legends.

The option "unpack all folders" should be activated in WinRar.

All files included at this mod may not be modified, converted or used elswhere without the expressly permission of every initiator taking part at this project.

The use of the sounds is bounded to this car or eventually permitted conversions to other platforms.

Expressed herefrom are paints of new skins; the starting grid may gladly be enlarged with good new skins for sure. A template is included.

The similar AMG-Mercedes is to be found in three different paintings from Salzburgring 1970 and Hockenheim 1971 (#31), Spa-Franchorchamps (#35) and Hockenheim season-final 1971 (#38). Further cars at the package are the ones from Klaus Behrmann (#64) and Fred Laufer (#108, Fahrer A. Heger). The Lahtinen-Mercedes (#109) complies to the last stage, one of the real types was rebuilt back to a streetcar and sold for private useage.

An effectively fiktive skin is the #100. It´s involving in the paint of Eugen Böhringer in Spa 1964, although he didn´t drive a SEL, but a 300 SE W 111, called "Heckflosse"

------drive with automatic-transmission?------

Partially the real cars were driven with automatic-transmission. We have realised this possibility at the streetcar #109 as an option. Who knows a little about the .car-file at the Teams-folder, just simply set the seccond option (MERCEDES_300SEL_4G-AUTO.HDC) at "HDVEHICLE=..." to the first place and command the following text out by setting two //. Then you´re able to drive the car with a 4-gear-automatic-transmission. Even if you do not use the F1-option for automatic-gearing in GTL but prefer to switch gears by hand without lifting the throttle, you will experience the smooth transitions, that only are offered by an automatic-transmission. This option is only recommended for driving the car by yourself, the AI is unable to drive with it. A car driven by AI at a race would not start away from the grid. The possibly reason are the delay-times and gearing with a time of 0.0. If they would be 0.1, the AI should work, although the impression of a continuous sound and changing of the gears would be destroyed by this parameters.

Some little fun must be. That´s what we´re wishing you now with the car.

Some News in Update 1.1

An error in the physics Fixed

a small problem with the textures has been fixed,

the car No. 108 (Folder 66) has now received BBS wheels,

an explanation for the genstrings was accompanied

the Annex "6.8" is deleted because installation problems occurred.

Mercedes 300 SEL New Wheels FIX

This fix replaces mispacked files in the original upload of car pack with wheels.

It repairs the Default Wheels becoming Blue wheels once rollling.

Drop in the Mercedes 300 SEL folder, and allow to over write.
