Organized iRacingI had some give and take with iRacing today to find out what they're working on with what has been called "Private Leagues" and most recently "Hosted Racing." Here's the scoop. And we're interested in what you think knowing that people disagree all over the place when it comes to most subjects - especially this one. Building consensus is more difficult in sim racing than in American politics. Caveat: this is just a discussion and what the current thinking is. Development issues will dictate a number of the final features of Organized iRacing and the first season will be different than following seasons. Nothing set in stone here presently. As we've repeated repeatedly, we are not going to do anything to harm the existing service. We have a couple of things in mind to protect the Official Races of iRacing. However, we want people to be able to do what they want to do here. Therefore it is imperative to try to give the people who want Organized iRacing a strong, broad menu of options. The plan currently is to implement a service called Organized iRacing. These are unofficial races that do not count in iRacing outside of the Organization you choose to race in. First, we are considering charging each member who wants to organize races & leagues $9 per season. This will ensure that iRacing is not overrun by organizers who aren't serious about what they are doing. A member can become an Organizer by purchasing an iRacing Organization ("Org" for short) prior to a season for $9 (an annual iRacing Organizer can purchase an annual iRacing Org for $25). Organizers can purchase as many Orgs as they want. An iRacing Org is essentially a "league" that can be passworded or not. It is a "hosting" service run by an iRacing Organizer. The Organizer sets his schedule, track, car(s), race length, yellows or no yellows, SR min/max, iRating min/max, set ups (fixed or not). The Organizer can make his races Open (no password) or Closed (password only). There is no cost for any member who wants to join an Org. The only charge is the $9 per season to become an iRacing Organizer and the Organizer also pays $1 for every race he schedules. This should serve to limit Orgs to Organizers - members who are serious about their Organization(s). [Note: an Organizer is going to be free to charge anyone anything they want outside of iRacing. So if an Organizer who is popular and good at running an Org puts together an Org and finds 30 people who will pay or contribute $1 per month or whatever he wants to charge them to be a participant in his Org -- that is not our business. We can't be responsible for transactions members may make between themselves.] An Organizer can create a website for their Org, but iRacing - as part of the Org service - will provide a dedicated Org page including all results and stats for that Org. The dedicated page service will probably not be available until season after next. The second thing we are going to do to ensure continued participation in our official series is the iRacing Participation Plan. The Participation Plan should increase participation in official races of iRacing because we intend to offer iRacing Credits to members who participate in at least 8 Race Weeks in a particular official iRacing series. A member who participates in at least 8 Race Weeks in a particular official series (ORGS ARE UNOFFICIAL) next season receives a $7.50 iRacing Credit after the season ends. If a member accomplishes this in two separate series during a season, such member will receive a $15 iRacing Credit after the season ends. $15 is the maximum Credit a member may obtain through this Participation Plan in any season. If a member takes full advantage of the Participation Plan, he will save an additional $60 per year. Right now an annual subscription is $156. Therefore, the annual cost could become as low as $96. That essentially reduces the cost from $13 per month to $8 per month! But you have to participate in official iRacing series as explained above. The Participation Plan will be evaluated each season. I doubt the official series will die off with these significant two plans in place to both protect the official series and to increase everyone's ability to get what they want out of iRacing. So, once again, none of this has been announced by iRacing. But this is what is being discussed currently. You're all so passionate about what is happening here at iRacing - about what you like and don't like - about what you want to see and don't want to see -- well, you should be part of the discussion process.

L'ultima proposta, sempre in ordine di tempo, di John: Organized iRacing ProposalIt is important that some members have the ability to become Organizers. We will offer an Organization Package for $150 to any Organizer who wants create an Organization. There will be an Organizer Forum specifically set up for Organizers. An Organization Package is good for 50 Organizer Credits. (We expect to see a lot of Organizers opt for 4x12 (48) races during a year with 2 special events) We will also offer all members (including Organizers) the ability to Host a race at any time for $3.50. There will be a Hosting Forum for Hosts (anyone who want to create spur of the moment races or set up scheduled races -- however they want to do it). Races will be set up for Organizers (using their Organizer Credits) and Hosts (for $3.50) will initiate a PQR (Practice/Qualify/Race Session) anytime they want. They will be the Admin for that race. Anyone joining a PQR joins for free. The Admin selects session options on a web page that will include session name (so people can find it), password (can be blank, i.e. none), car, track, fixed setup ability, practice length, race length, qualify length/type, yellows on/off, rolling/standing start, SR min/max, iRating min/max. Not all of these options might be ready by the start of next season. The PQR session will start moments after it is initiated and run for a prescribed period set by the Admin - long enough to include x minutes of practice, x minutes of qualify and x laps of racing—if someone were using this to run a league, he/she would initiate the PQR perhaps a half hour before the league race time and have at least a half hour of practice. It would have been announced in the Organizer iRacing Forum or on their website. We will be working on a central Organized Schedule Page for the second season of Organized iRacing. This methodology will work not just for leagues or associations but will also allow a group who are practicing or chatting to organize a race at any time and get a race going right away with people they are in communication with. While the costs are slightly less than we have been discussing of late, they are substantial enough to keep people who aren't serious or who aren't going to have enough members to race from scheduling a PQR session. The hosted sessions would all be exactly alike in format: an open practice period, then a qualify period, followed by a race -- PQR. The races would be gridded by qualifying time, then iRating (if no time is recorded for a driver). There will be easily accessible links with results for the 3 sessions (Practice, Qual, Race). Any of the 3 sessions can be skipped by the Admin placing a zero for that session. The Participation Plan will begin at the same time Organized iRacing begins -- planned launch next season. The Participation Plan will probably be based on what you have suggested >> Up to $60 per year in iRacing Credits will be made available, but based on the level you drive. The higher the series, the greater the Credit. Sometimes a resolution is the more important than perfection. I'm sure some members will object to this, but we believe these steps will greatly enhance the overall value and attractiveness of iRacing. Now, perhaps, I can go back to concentrating on the official iRacing series. Our focus will remain there. The focus on Organized iRacing will lie primarily with the Organizers -- God bless them!! John
VELOCIPEDE Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Hosted iRacingPosted: Aug 31, 2009 4:27 PM There has been a lot of discussion regarding customized iRacing coming to iRacing. What we have called organized iRacing probably needs a better nomenclature that easily encompasses all aspects of this additional service. We've listened and we intend to try to accommodate people who are interested in racing options, customizing for leagues and for a race at any particular time in any car on any track. It's probably simplest to call all of this "Hosted iRacing." A league administrator would be a "Series Host" or "Series Organizer." He or she will be able to purchase a 60-PQR (Practice/Qual/Race) package for $150. Each one begins with a Practice session (unless Practice is set to zero) -- followed the Qualifying session (unless Qual is set to zero) -- followed by the Race session --- PQR. 60 is enough for 52 weeks plus 8 extra PQRs. Essentially $2.50 per PQR. They will set the time, password (if any), car, track, type of race, minimum SR, min/max iRating, length of race, yellows or not, fixed setup ability, rolling/standing start etc. The races would be gridded by qualifying time, then iRating (if no time is recorded for a driver). There will be easily accessible links with results for the 3 sessions (Practice, Qual, Race) Also any member can "Host" a PQR anytime they want by purchasing individual PQRs at $3.00 each. Anyone within a Club or chatting in a practice session, can at any time, create a PQR. The PQR session will start moments after it is initiated and run for a prescribed period set by the Host - long enough to include x minutes of practice, x minutes of qualify and x laps of racing. In running a league, he/she would initiate the PQR perhaps a half hour before the league race time and have at least half an hour of practice. While the costs are less than we have been discussing of late, they are enough to keep people who aren't serious or who aren't going to have enough members to race from continually scheduling PQR sessions. There is no cost to members who join these sessions. There are over 1000 race sim leagues and/or associations out there internationally. This new feature will certainly increase membership and will lead to much larger fields for our official series. ---Postscript Discounted bundling (60-PQR packages) will not be available next season. So PQRs will be a flat $3 each. però bisogna ricordare che So much time has been spent in trying to get Hosted iRacing to work for everyone, that I know some of our members are concerned about our primary focus -- our official series. If there is one thing I am sure of, it is that our primary focus will always be our official series. All other racing in iRacing is unofficial. As many of you know, I am determined to promote the World Cup of iRacing around the globe. The Pro Series is great. The iRacing World Driver's Championships are going to be tremendously exciting. But all of those are completely secondary to our overall focus -- 'round-the-clock, official Rookie Class, D Class, C Class, B Class and A Class racing series. Every post that opines differently is simply inaccurate. The official series have been our focus and they will remain our focus. Every post that opines that the sky is falling - whether it is about membership, revenues, the number of drivers - is simply inaccurate. Factually, we continue to grow all aspects of what we are doing. People have been predicting our demise for various speculative reasons since before we opened to the public. As I've said many times over the past five years, people will be saying this for at least the first ten years we are in business. I think they will always say it. We love what we are doing and while we will not be able to keep everyone happy all of the time and while we will not move as quickly in each direction as many would like for us to (understandably), we will, however, be absolutely relentless - sparing no expense - in providing the most accurate simulation in racing. Our official series, the Safety Ratings and iRatings provide the backbone of our service. It is our mission to improve and expand all of that as we grow. I know many of you have invested countless hours and a lot of money in iRacing. We respect and appreciate that more than you can know. We share something that we all have an extraordinary passion for. I feel very lucky to be in the position of addressing you from time to time and appreciate you taking the time to listen and to comment.
