MotoGP 09/10 will not only deliver all the bikes, riders and tracks from the 2009 championship, but brand new gameplay modes that offer rewards to the rider for their riding style not just winning the race, plus the ability to update the game with accurate content from the 2010 championship, as the season unfolds at no extra cost.

Ecco una serie di domande e risposte da parte del team di sviluppo.

Will you be researching the correct speeds and correct gears needed for each corner on each track and making it realistic compared to the onboard laps filmed from that of each MotoGp tracks and races?

We say: Replicating the exact speed and gear using on board data could lead to a very unforgiving game. We are trying to strike the balance between realism and accessibility. We do use onboard video, statistical data from Dorna and our own riding experience when working on the handling! It’s a balance of pulling all these factors together so we can achieve an experience that feels authentic; although possibly not 100% accurate. This leads into the discussion topic for this week; should GP be a full on hardcore simulation, ala GP500 or hi-sim, ala Grid etc.

Will the main emphasis on the handling development and accuracy be from the onboard view first or from the behind the bike view or both together?

We say: Behind the bike view will be the main focus, but the cockpit view is something close to our hearts and we will dedicate time to ensuring this is done properly.

Will there will a beta test process that we can get involved in, so we can provide feedback before the game is released?

We say: This is a possibility although we can’t supply any details yet. We are thinking of doing focus testing later down the line, something which we’ll be looking at both inside and outside of the MotoGP community.

Will there be any Rossi style leg dangling when approaching the limits of adhesion whilst putting the anchors on for a corner?

We say: Not for this version of the game, however we would be looking at ideas like this in future titles. This MotoGP game for Monumental is about nailing the core experience, game modes and online experience. We want to make a totally immersive experience, which is then a solid platform which adopts ideas like customisable riding styles. Will it be possible to download other peoples fastest lap ghost? We say: Yes, we have an event cooler feature in the pipeline as well, but I can’t tell you about it just yet.

Will there be an indication of the fastest lap of the race while the race is on? Eg (a red helmet with the lap time and the player name.)

We say: We’re still to finalise a final solution for the HUD timers, but we would like to include this idea. It’s seen on the real sport broadcast and we feel that it’s great!

Will there be an option to install the game on the PS3/360 hard-drive to improve loading times?

We say: Yes!

Will players be allowed to create a custom rider/team to race against the MotoGP regulars and use in a career mode?

We say: You’ll have to wait and see. Sorry we can’t say anymore right now, but we’re sure you won’t be disappointed!

How deep will the bike setup options go?

We say: Bike setup options will go much deeper than the previous MotoGP game. We are including wheelbase, suspension stiffness, compression and rebound dampening, individual gear ratios, traction control and braking aids. (And by ‘aids’ I don’t mean ‘power’.)

I'm curious about the menu setup option, is there going to be global access? By that I mean will I be able to go back to the main menu from any menu? It's a pain to have to sit through loading screens for 2 or 3 menus when you simply want to exit a mode and do something else.

We say: Our entire F.E. will fit into memory. You will not load between different sections of the menus. Also, there will be in-game sub-menus to allow the player to set-up the bike, practice, qualify and race without any loading.

Will the game have mandatory weather options? Will you be able to select the weather option in ALL modes?

We say: The arcade and career modes will both have set weather conditions that reflect those seen in the corresponding GP season. Practice / Multiplayer will have custom weather options.

Will we have an option to have the on bike perspective based on the camera located on the rider’s helmet?

We say: We are currently reviewing the camera system and want to make changes like these. It’ll be very interesting to hear your comments on this subject.

Game AI. Is it going to be bound by the same set of rules as the players are? By that I mean respond to contact and off track excursions in the same manner.

We say: The AI will drive on the same physics as the player.

Are there going to be any blurring effects? If so will there be an option to turn them off?

We say: The simple answer to this is yes. We are also looking into the options which are offered to the player.

Application of Rider Aids. Will these turn novices into Gods or simply make the game more manageable for them to come to grips with?

We say: Application aids will make the game more manageable.

Replay options: Will replays be able to be saved and shared. Additionally will they have an option to display data (lap times, split times, telemetry, settings, etc?

We say: You cannot save or share replay data in this version. There are memory restrictions on ‘game clips’ for both the PS3 and X-Box leaderboards and they are being used up by ghost data.

Sim and Arcade modes: There are fans of both modes so will the game include both modes, but clearly different in order to please both kinds of fans?

We say: The ‘sim’ level will relate to the chosen class. The 800cc giving a more realistic and difficult experience. Our ethos is that we want three distinctive fun handling models for the 125cc, 250cc and 800cc bikes. We want each model to be fun, but they will all come from the “same world”. The 800cc bikes will be closer to simulation experience than say the ‘twitchier’ 125’s. Our opinion is when the community is divided over which bike class is the best, we’ll know we’ve done our jobs right. What we don’t want to happen is 125’s and 250’s disappear in obscurity once players have got their hands on 800cc bikes! We will offer some announcements relating to game modes further down the line.
