Milwaukee Mile disponibile

The oldest continuously operating speedway in the world is also home to the newest form of racing. The legendary Milwaukee Mile is the latest addition to iRacing's collection of tracks and is available now to members for $20.

Although the track has seen several renovations since it opened up in 1903, it has retained its characteristically low banking, something which has traditionally leant it to open-wheel racing series.

Today's IndyCar drivers navigate the circuit in just over 20 seconds, while NASCAR Nationwide series teams typically log qualifying laps in the 30-second range, the lack of banking playing a constant tug-of-war with the heavier cars as drivers battle to keep it off the wall.

Whether open-wheel or closed-wheel, Milwaukee's near-flat banking will offer plenty of challenge to any oval racer.

BEDFORD, MA (October 02, 2008) - iRacing.com today announced the addition of the Milwaukee Mile to its online motorsport simulation and internet racing service. The legendary low-banked oval is now available to iRacing members for testing purposes and will be a prominent feature for the competition side of the service starting next month.

"The Milwaukee Mile has both history and heritage," said Scott McKee, iRacing's vice president of marketing. "But given the interactive nature of our service, the challenge that this unique venue poses to drivers is our true focus. We're confident that all of our members, whether they race in the physical world, the virtual world or both, will want to spend some time on The Mile."

As with all iRacing tracks, which include road courses, superspeedways and short ovals, Milwaukee has been replicated using iRacing's proprietary laser-scanning process. Every feature of the track, including the oval, the infield road course and the 'Mini Mile' configurations, has been captured with millimeter precision in the iRacing model.

"The Milwaukee Mile, which hosted its first race in 1903 is the oldest continuously operated speedway in the world, and we're thrilled to enter a new era of motorsports with iRacing." said Chad Kenny, vice president of marketing for the speedway. "The Mile is a driver's track, and we hope that the iRacing members find just as much joy navigating through our wide, flat turns as our fans have had watching A.J. Foyt, the Andrettis, the Unsers, Dale Earnhardt, Matt Kenseth, and the rest of the big names in our sport compete at our historic facility."

iRacing's simulation software has been designed as a training tool for real-world racers - professionals and amateurs - to hone their skills, but the service goes beyond driver development to include a new branch of motorsport, known as internet racing. Milwaukee will be included in at least one of iRacing's professionally sanctioned racing series during the next competition season, which commences Nov. 3.

"With the oval, the infield road course and the 'Mini Mile', Milwaukee hosts many different kinds of racing - NASCAR, IndyCar, USAC, ARCA, SCCA, Legends Cars, vintage, you name it," said McKee. "As an iRacing track, it'll start off as a race-week venue for one of our upper-level oval track series that will feature the Chevy Silverado race truck, but we may incorporate it into other series as well."

About The Milwaukee Mile

The Milwaukee Mile is the world's oldest active motor speedway, dating back to 1903. America's Legendary Oval has a long and storied history, which continues in 2009 with the traditional IndyCar Series weekend right after the Indianapolis 500, May 30-31, and back-to-back NASCAR nighttime events, with the NASCAR Truck Series racing on Friday night, June 19 and the stars of the NASCAR Nationwide Series competing on Saturday night, June 20. Grass roots racers, road racers and club racers add to the variety of series competing at The Milwaukee Mile.
