FIRST, the sanctioning body for all competition in the iRacing.com internet racing service, on July 25th concluded its first official 12-week season since the service's public launch. Overall champions for racing and time-trial competition have been recognized in four series, as well as ten divisional champions in each of those series. Additionally, in the geographically-based FIRST Club competition, the Southeast U.S. has been named champion.

"This is a milestone in the growing sport of internet racing," said John Henry, chairman of the board of FIRST and co-founder with Dave Kaemmer of iRacing.com. "We're very pleased to honor this first group of champions. It's a moment that Dave and I both envisioned more than four years ago when we embarked on this project.

"And while this initial season of FIRST-sanctioned competition represents the achievement of an important goal for our organization, what is really exciting to all of us at iRacing is the notion of establishing a community, where individuals can not only have fun racing, but also establish meaningful friendships with like-minded people."

Kaemmer, who is iRacing's chief executive officer and leader of its development team, noted that while the service's simulation software represents new levels of accuracy and authenticity, development of the software will continue. "We've gotten great feedback from our members," Kaemmer said. "They appreciate what our team has done in building the sim. But one of the advantages of being internet-based is that we are able to continually improve the software and the service, introducing new features and content as our development team completes them. In the meantime, it's great to see our thousands of members enjoying great on-track competition."

Legendary simracer Greger Huttu took three titles, winning the Skip Barber Championships in both Race and Time Trial, as well as picking up an oval crown in the Advanced Legends Cup Time Trial competition. Chris Shearburn, also a well-known simracer, won both Race and Time Trial titles on the Late Model Tour.

Tony LaGrene took the Advanced Legends Cup Race crown by the thinnest of margins - two points - over Dustin McGrew, while Frosty St. Clair won the Advanced Solstice Race title by 47.5 points over Josh Carr, and then was runner-up behind Ilkka Haapala in the Advanced Solstice Time Trial competition.

In the hard-fought Club Championship, Southeast U.S. bested International by a relatively narrow margin with Mid-Atlantic U.S. third.
