K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 1.03

The K-Lite Codec Pack is a free collection of codecs and related tools. Codec is short for Compressor-decompressor. Codecs are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video. The very user-friendly installation is fully customizable, which means that you can install only those components that you want.
There are three versions of the K-Lite Codec Pack: The Basic version, who fits on a single floppy disk, contains only the most essential codecs and related tools. The Standard version contains everything what is needed to play all the commonly used formats. The Full version contains even more codecs and also has encoding support.
The text in black applies to the Full, Standard and Basic versions, the text in green applies to the Full and Standard versions and the text in red applies to the Full version only.
It is highly recommended to uninstall all existing codec related software before installing. This way your system stays clean and potential problems will be avoided.
Feature descriptions:
- MPC (Media Player Classic) 6.4.8.2 is a full featured player which has internal decoding support for DVD, MPEG-2, DTS, Matroska, OGM and some other formats. It can play QuickTime and RealMedia content too (if those codecs are installed).
- DivX Pro Decoding 5.1.1 is required for playing DivX movies. DivX is the second most popular format.
- DivX Pro Encoding 5.1.1 is required for encoding movies in the DivX format.
- DivX;) MPEG-4 Low and Fast motion 4.1.0.3927 is an old version (3.11) of DivX. Only required for those who want to use it to encode something.
- XviD Decoding 1.01 Final 2004-06-05 is required for playing XviD movies. XviD is currently the most popular format.
- XviD Encoding 1.01 Final 2004-06-05 is required for encoding movies in the XviD format.
- 3ivX Decoding D4 4.5.1 is required for playing 3ivX movies.
- 3ivX Encoding D4 4.5.1 is required for encoding movies in the 3ivX format.
- Windows Media 7.1.0.3055 is required for playing Windows Media 7 movies and audio.
- Windows Media 8.0.0.371 is required for playing Windows Media 8 movies and audio.
- Windows Media VCM 9.0.1.369 is required for playing Windows Media 9 movies and audio.
- On2 VP3 3.2.5.0 is required for playing VP3 movies. These are not very common.
- On2 VP6 Decoding 6.2.0.10 is required for playing VP6 movies. These are not very common.
- On2 VP6 Encoding 6.2.0.10 is required for encoding movies in the VP6 format.
- Cyberlink DVD decoder 5.0.0.1130 can be used to play DVDs in some players (and if you have a DVD drive in your PC). Not required if you use Media Player Classic, because it has an internal DVD decoder.
- Ligos Indeo XP 5.2820.15.58 is required for playing movies that have the Indeo 5 format.
- Intel Indeo 4.51.16.2 is required for playing movies that have the Indeo 4 format.
- Intel Indeo 3.24.15.03 is required for playing movies that have the Indeo 3 format.
- Intel I.263 2.55.1.16 is required for playing movies that have the I.263 format.
- Huffyuv 2.2.0 is required for playing and encoding movies that have the Huffyuv format. Huffyuv is a lossless (no quality loss) video compression format.
- MS MPEG-4 4.1.0.3927 is required for playing movies that have the MS MPEG-4 format.
- Ligos/Elecard/Mainconcept MPEG-2 demuxers and decoders are required for playing movies that have the MPEG-2 format. There are seven combinations of MPEG-2 dexumers and decoders available. Not required if you use Media Player Classic, because it has native MPEG-2 decoding support. If you use another player and don't know which combination of MPEG-2 filters to choose then the Elecard/Ligos combination is recommended.
- Fraunhofer MP3 DirectShow decoder 1.9.0.311 is required for playing movies that have a MP3 audio stream.
- WMA DirectShow decoder 8.0.0.4487 is required for playing movies that have a WMA audio stream.
- AC3 DirectShow decoder 0.70b mod is required for playing movies that have an AC3 audio stream. The decoder supports AC3, DTS, MP3, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 audio.
- AC3 ACM decoder 0.7 is required for playing movies that have an AC3 audio stream.
- Ogg Vorbis DirectShow decoder (CoreVorbis) 1.0b5 is required for playing movies that have an Ogg Vorbis audio stream.
- AAC DirectShow decoder (CoreAAC) 1.0b9 is required for playing movies that have an AAC audio stream.
- MusePack DirectShow decoder 1.0.0.3 is required for playing MusePack audio files.
- Voxware DirectShow decoder 1.0.0.12 is required for playing movies that have a Voxware audio stream.
- Monkey's Audio DirectShow decoder 1.00 is required for playing Monkey's audio files (.ape). Monkey's Audio is a lossless (no quality loss) audio compresion format.
- LAME MP3 ACM 3.96 is required for encoding MP3 streams/files.
- Ogg Vorbis DirectShow filters 0.9.9.5 are required for opening audio and video streams in an Ogg Vorbis container (.ogm files). Not required if you use Media Player Classic to play these types of files, because it has native OGM decoding support.
- Matroska DirectShow splitter 1.0.2.3 is required for opening audio and video streams in a Matroska container (.mkv and .mka files). Not required if you use Media Player Classic to play these types of files, because it has native Matroska decoding support.
- DirectVobSub (vsfilter) 2.33 is a tool for displaying subtitles. Your subtitle file should have the same filename as your video file (for example Movie.avi and Movie.sub) and should be in the same folder (directory) as your video file. Then the subtitles will automatically be displayed in most players.
- Matrix Mixer 0.30b can be used to amplify the sound of a video file. It also can mix stereo sound to multiple channels (useful for 4.1 and higher speaker sets).
- SHOUTcast Source 1.0.0.1 can be used to play SHOUTcast streams in any DirectShow enabled player.
- Morgan Multimedia Stream Switcher 0.9.9 can be used to switch between two audio streams in a video file that has two audio streams. These types of video files are not very common. Not required if you use BSplayer, because it has native support for more audio streams.
- DivX Anti-Freeze 0.4 prevents freezing of some players when playing a damaged DivX movie. This filter is not needed with the current version of DivX, only with old versions and causes problems with some programs. It is not recommended to install this.
- GSpot Codec Information Appliance 2.21 build 030711 is a tool that can tell you exactly which codecs are needed to play a certain video file. This is very helpful when you have troubles playing a video file.
- The FourCC (Four Character Code) Changer is a program for changing the FourCC of a video file, which is used to identify which codec should be used to decode the file. This power tool is for expert users only.
- Bitrate Calculator can be used to calculate the bitrate to use when encoding a movie.
