Guest SpiderX Posted May 19, 2004 Posted May 19, 2004 Hi people, This is something that i felt you guyz could give me some hints on. Im having to go for a few months to Milan and i know i will miss my wheel and Netkar and all other online games. My question is, whats the fastest way to have a broadband connection in Milan, and what kind of restrictions to non italian residents i might encounter? Are there any of those DSL packs that you buy in the supermarket, take home and then just activate with a phone call? i ask this because we have that here in portugal.... Tx for all the help
Guest Ecio Posted May 19, 2004 Posted May 19, 2004 uhm fast things are not common in italy, we are famous for our sl000w burocracy, so i dont think you can get a dsl line so fast, you'll need at least a couple of weeks, and probably you can ask it only if you are the owner of the line (or if the owner of the line allows you to do that). Let us not forget that many contract are 12 months long... PS where are you going to stay ? rent a house, hotel or whatever?
Guest SpiderX Posted May 19, 2004 Posted May 19, 2004 Hi ecio, Tx for the reply, we are not fast either LOL, i believe that the only difference between us and you guyz is that you guyz are usually taller..eheheh well, renting an apartment with a phone line i hope.... In here to install a normal DSL conn it also takes one week or 2 but lately theres alot of this DSL packs (do it yourself) that you buy in shopping centers, big computer stores or even supermarkets and take home...then you just need to call their service support... provide the phone number and modem serial and they activate it remotely.. Tx

You can buy that box in italy too, but the only thing you speed up is getting a modem and the autoconfig cd, they need to activate it, and they dont do it in 5 minutes.... and btw you must firstly check that the phone number has adsl coverage (but i suppose you shouldnt have problems in milan)
Guest SpiderX Posted May 19, 2004 Posted May 19, 2004 Ok, Tx one more time Ecio, i see that its feasable but takes time then...dam Regards
Guest Ecio Posted May 20, 2004 Posted May 20, 2004 if you dont need a fast connection you could opt for a gprs flat (i.e. vodafone) that costs 20euro/month. Of course it's very slow (gprs) and not good for gaming, but for email it's enough ...or maybe you'll be a lucky guy and find a good place with fastweb coverage (fiber optical connection @10mbit or adsl line @2mbit )
