This years’ Blackhole Motorsports award for Best Mod is awarded to the development team RaceSims Revolution for their superb recreation of the European Touring Car Championship Series for F1 Challenge.

The ETCC 2003 Mod has created the best add-on to an existing platform or game including all cars and drivers from the 2003 season of the European Touring Cars Championship (ETCC) with the aim of creating the most realistic touring car racing simulation currently possible. This award goes to the Mod project that has done the best job of adding to or renewing interest to a particular title. ETCC demonstrates a realistic physics model using the real specs of the 2003 ETCC cars with unique driving characteristics for each car, also utilizing all the features of the F1 Challenge 99-02 physics engine, like tire heating, tire wear, brake temperature, engine heating, real-time suspension geometry modeling and realistic damage effects. All cars have been modeled with great attention to detail with unique cockpits and steering wheels for each car model. The ETCC 2003 Mod was designed for the sim-racer who wants to enjoy close racing in real ETCC races with a realistic driving, accurate physics and realistic AI behavior. Any Mod that can add new customers to an existing product line that otherwise would not have been attracted to it because of its genre is a very rewarding experience. Initially we gain from the release of a basically new product but hopefully we expand the attention of the original producer so they will enhance their own product. No producer wants to be upstaged by a private party developer. Once they are bested however, one would think that the only recourse they have is to create better products. In the end it is clear evidence of what the people want in a racing simulation.
