On Thursday, December 1, iRacing.com Motorsport Simulations will unveil its Exactrac laser scanning technology at the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in Orlando, Florida. In conjunction with partners Virginia International Raceway (VIR) and Skip Barber, iRacing.com will offer invited guests a “first drive on the numerous configurations of VIR in the virtual cockpit of the Skip Barber R/T 2000.

Guests will climb on board the Force-Dynamics 301 motion platform for their drives. Laser scanning technology produces extremely accurate “point clouds of any object or environment. iRacing.com Motorsport Simulations’ Exactrac technology transforms the raw point cloud of a race track into a drivable virtual model that is accurate in all three dimensions to within millimeters. The technology will also be applied to modeling a race car chassis. The end result is a cost effective, PC based closed-loop racing simulator useful to race drivers and engineers alike.
“Exactrac laser scanning technology is certainly one of the key elements of our future products, said Dave Kaemmer, President/CEO of iRacing.com and co-founder of Papyrus Racing Games. “Coupled with the physics models that we have under development, our future products may even break certain test bans…seriously though, we are now at the point where this technology can legitimately be considered a tool for testing and driver training, Kaemmer continued, “At Papyrus, we developed the leading multi-player online racing systems for over ten years. Improvements in these systems in conjunction with our new technology will bring racing in real-time against drivers from around the globe to a new level.
