Membership in iRacing.com is required for entry to the series, but a special $US 5.00 one-month membership (which includes the Star Mazda and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca as well as seven other tracks and five other cars) in the world’s premier online racing service means that the qualifying series is open to racing game enthusiasts and sim racers world-wide. (For full details visit the Intel GP Series page).
At the end of the one week series, the top ten drivers in the point standing who are residents of participating countries in Asia and Australia will advance to a final 20-lap online shoot-out race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on December 4 with the top two finishers advancing to the Intel® GP World Finals. However, every driver who participates in at least four days of the weeklong qualifying series, whatever their country of residence, will be entered in a random drawing to win an Intel® Core i7 processor and motherboard (retail value of $1500).
“The Intel GP Series is another exciting opportunity for iRacers to compete with one another on a global stage,” said Tony Gardner, iRacing.com’s president. “With races taking place every hour around the clock, the Asia/Australia qualifying series will offer each of our more than 20,000 members in more than 80 countries around the world the chance to race whenever it fits their schedule. And for the racers in Asia and Australia it’s a opportunity to advance to their regional final race next month and win the chance to go to Hannover next spring.”
The top two finishers from Asia/Australia shootout earn berths in the 10-driver field for the Intel GP Series World Finals, with live racing at CeBit in Hannover, Germany on March 3, 2011. They will join finalists from the United States (Ray Alfalla, Wyatt Gooden, Jason Lisner and Jake Stergios) and Europe, including Bastien Bartsch, Greger Huttu, Richard Towler and David Williams. (Towler was recently crowned the champion in the 2010 NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Champion and Huttu the titlist in the 2010 iRacing.com Drivers World Championship Road Racing. Each driver took home $US 10,000 in cash and prizes.)
Part of the Intel Extreme Masters Tournament, the Intel® GP Series World Finals pits the world’s top sim racers against each other on brand new Playseat Evolution Racing chassis and using Logitech G27 steering wheel/pedal sets. At stake will be $17,900 in prizes and the title of Intel® GP Series World Champion.
