iRacing plans on doing a minor update to the iRacing service on Monday, August 29. The exact time of the maintenance window will be released shortly. This update includes memory management improvements as well as track optimizations which can help boost frame rates and reduce the likelihood of “stuttering”. We wanted to get this update out before the start of the next race week (week 5) which has the Prototype and GT Series scheduled to visit Suzuka (one of our most graphically intense tracks).
The combination of Suzuka together with three different types of cars (HPD, GT, & Corvette) can be taxing on the system and video memory of your computer so we suggest you spend some time in open practice to make sure your computer is handling it to your liking. If not, there are some very easy tuning tips in the release notes and we will also try and answer questions in the forums.
Keep in mind, stuttering and performance is often caused by computer/technology issues outside of iRacing. Another very rich graphical combination is the same 3 cars at Spa which comes up later in the season. Spa and Suzuka are the largest tracks within iRacing in terms of data size and we also have spent a lot of time compressing the file size. Again, we suggest that you run in open practice at Suzuka or Spa to make sure it performs adequately. Single car series at these tracks should not be a problem.
Those of you looking for news on the tires, stay tuned to the forums as Dave Kaemmer will be sending an update out before week’s end. For particulars on this update, click here for detailed release notes.
