The Formula BMW Talent Cup presents its latest cooperation partner, V1 Championship. Applying an innovative process of elimination, V1 Championship will be awarding a Formula BMW Talent Cup cockpit for the year 2012 and will carry the €100,000 cost of the training programme.V1 Championship provides an affordable means of recognising young driving talents at an early stage. Using a combination of physiological and psychometric units, their race simulator – the “V1 Championship Simulator” – filters out the best cockpit candidate for the 2012 Formula BMW Talent Cup. After four years of development work, V1 Championship has come up with accurate tests to assess the talent of young drivers. “Today simulations are a fundamental part of Formula One and hopefully will soon be a way of identifying talent as well,” says former F1 World Champion John Surtees. The simulator can be downloaded for a fee from the internet portal www.v1championship.com.
In the Formula BMW Talent Cup a total of 15 young drivers, who may not have any prior experience in formula racing, are systematically introduced to the requirements of a professional motor racing career. Driver coaches and race engineers take charge of small groups and take them through everything from individual driving style to complete vehicle set-up.
The training concept behind the Formula BMW Talent Cup is based on the competence of qualified experts. Fitness trainers from the Sense company, for example, teach the drivers all about physical fitness and nutrition. But beyond the physical side, the psychological aspect of motor racing is taking on an ever greater role: here the internationally renowned mental coach Professor Dieter Hackfort teaches strategies for handling stressful situations on and around the race track. Dealing with the media is another increasingly crucial aspect. The young drivers get to grips with professional media content and learn how to conduct themselves in front of a radio mike or television camera. All communications are based on English, the international language of motor sport. The international nature of the Formula BMW Talent Cup is reflected in its range of event venues right across Europe.
