VELOCIPEDE
Following on from his historic victory in the Visa Vegas eRace, Bono Huis completed a test with the Faraday Future Dragon Racing Formula E team at the Circuit de Calafat in Spain last week. Huis said: “It was great. Ever since I started watching motorsports at the age of nine, it's always been a dream to have a go in a Formula car and now it finally happened.” Nerves were not an issue for the Team Redline sim racer, who only three weeks earlier had won the richest prize in eSports racing history, where he was fastest in every session bar the Qualification race. During the filming day with Faraday Future Dragon Racing, Huis had his first experience of an open wheel racing car. “It all went pretty well,” he said. “I only got a few laps though because it was a filming day, so nothing like a ’real’ test. But still, I got to experience how the car feels and I enjoyed it a lot and I really want to thank Dragon Racing for the opportunity they gave me.” The five-time Formula Sim Racing Champion didn’t get a chance to demonstrate the speed that took him to victory against the 20 Formula E racers and nine of the world’s top sim racers: “I was driving cautiously and not taking any risks so it's difficult to compare to the simulator. But having said that, it all felt pretty natural to me. I basically did all the same things that I do in the sim and they seemed to work so that was good. But for a real comparison I would need way more time in the car and really drive it to the limit, only then can you feel how close the simulator is to the real thing.” Huis admits he hasn’t started spending the $225,000 he won in Vegas yet, but hopes that the ground-breaking event is the first of many of its kind. “It was great exposure for simracing, exactly what it needs even though it had its flaws, but those can be ironed out easily for future events. The Visa Vegas eRace was without a doubt the biggest event in simracing's history and I hope it's the beginning of many more events like this.”
