Il sito DR Racing blog ha pubblicato un articolo in inglese molto interessante che confronta in modo diretto, con l'utilizzo della telemetria, il lavoro della geometria delle sospensioni di una vettura reale con quello del simulatore rFactor. L'analisi è molto tecnica e dettagliata ed offre sorprendenti risultati di sovrapposizione dei risultati. Before I dive a bit more into the details of this project, let me spend two words about the assumptions used by rFactor in terms of suspension modeling and my view about the software’s limitation. First of all, it is clear to me, as it is probably clear to all of view, that rFactor was not though as an engineering tool and there are some limitations that are difficult to completely overcome, if not acting on the code itself (which is out of my skills, intention and interest).

    Intervista al mago: Carrera4

    Dopo il recente speciale dedicato all'incredibile F1 1988 mod per rFactor 2, che ha riscosso un grande successo, il nostro Mauro Stefanoni ha pensato di rivolgersi direttamente alla "fonte" di tanta passione... L'ormai espertissimo modder italo inglese Carrera4 è il creatore di uno dei mod di Formula Uno più coinvolgenti e ben realizzati, presente su entrambi i titoli targati ISI, rFactor e rFactor2. Nell'intervista che segue ci racconta di come ha iniziato la sua avventura nel mondo dei mod e di quanto la passione giochi un ruolo fondamentale nella realizzazione di un ottimo lavoro. Prima di tutto, quando e perché hai iniziato a lavorare ad un mod? E cosa ti ha spinto a creare questo mod in particolare? Ho iniziato molti anni fa su F1 Challenge (uno dei primi simulatori basati sull’engine degli ISI), poi sono passato ad rFactor1. All’inizio il modding era incentrato sui circuiti, modificavo molto i circuiti di altri per uso personale e cosi ho cominciato pian piano a imparare la tecnica, fino al rilascio dei primi circuiti completamente nuovi. All’epoca c’erano un paio di macchine di F1 dell ‘86 e ‘88 che mi piacevano molto e per questo ho iniziato a creare circuiti di quegli anni. Sempre con la speranza che qualcuno facesse un bel mod completo del campionato 1988. Ma dopo qualche anno decisi di non aspettare più e di fare il mod per me stesso. In realtà non avevo nessun piano di rilasciarlo ma un amico mi disse dopo averlo provato che non avevo niente da perdere e che il mod era abbastanza decente [ride] per renderlo pubblico. Quanto tempo è passato prima che potessi pubblicare la prima versione? La mia prima versione del mod l'ho rilasciata se ricordo bene nel 2009, ci avevo lavorato solo sei mesi. Mi ricordo che ci lavoravo tutti i giorni per minimo 3 ore come un pazzo [ride]. Ma sui circuiti ho lavorato molto più a lungo. L`ultimo circuito (Suzuka) l'ho finito appena nel 2016. Subito dopo ho incominciato i lavori su rF2. Una domanda di pura curiosità, che si pongono in tanti, me compreso: come si realizza un mod di auto valido, ben fatto, come il tuo? Prima di tutto ci vuole moooolta passione e tempo; io per esempio tempo ne ho poco, ma penso di avere il talento di lavorare veloce e questo sicuramente mi ha aiutato. Poi sin da giovane ho sempre guidato macchine sportive (anche se vecchiotte per mancanza di soldi) che ho sempre aggiustato e modificato per conto mio nella mia piccola officina e quindi conosco bene anche la meccanica. Ho trascorso anche molte ore in pista con vari tipi di auto, molto spesso con la mia vecchia Porsche Carrera4 del 1990 (da qui il mio nome appunto “Carrera4”). Tutta questa esperienza sicuramente mi ha aiutato ma non è al 100% necessaria. Passione e un po’ di talento bastano. Quindi con un pò di pazienza e software adeguati si può fare un bel lavoro? Sicuramente aiuta l’esperienza in campo informatico (come nel mio caso per altro) ma non è a tutti costi necessaria.Come tutte le cose quando si ha la passione per qualcosa si riesce a creare tutto. Quanto è stato utile il supporto della community? Sin dalle prime versioni è stato accolto bene come mod ma immagino che in molti ti avranno chiesto di cambiare qualcosa o migliorare questo invece di quest'altro. Aiuta molto, specialmente in un aspetto: quando crei qualcosa da solo e per te stesso, magari non controlli e ti sfugge qualche dettaglio. Cosa che si fa invece quando una mod è pubblica, anche per non fare brutta figura [ride] Ti dà pure quella chicca in più di motivazione che ti porta a finire un lavoro che magari senza la community non finiresti mai. Quali programmi hai per il futuro? Continuerai ad aggiornare questo mod ancora per molto oppure stai pensando di iniziare qualcos'altro? Programmi ne ho tanti, ma se vedo quanto tempo è stato necessario per una sola stagione che per di più non è neppure finita, non so se riuscirò a trovare la motivazione e il tempo per cominciare qualcosa di nuovo. Ho sempre lavorato su piccoli progetti e realizzato qualche singola macchina o circuito modificato, ma solo per uso privato. Sicuramente continuerò il lavoro sulla stagione ’88; non ho ancora perso la passione per queste macchine che dopo tutti questi anni ancora mi affascinano. Inoltre spero che rFactor 2 continui la sua strada che ha preso sin dall`inizio, anche se lo sviluppo è un po’ lento. Ma secondo me è ancora il miglior simulatore e per le sensazioni di guida non c'è di meglio ed è questa la cosa più importante per noi appassionati di auto da corsa.     rF: ottimizzare il setup reale al simulatore

    Il nostro amico Andrea ci propone un nuovo ed interessante articolo "tecnico" dedicato al buon vecchio rFactor targato ISI: questa volta ci parla di un progetto recente, supportando un team reale di classe LMP2, con delle sessioni al simulatore per ottimizzare il setup reale delle loro vetture. L'articolo mostra, ancora una volta, quanto in lá si possa andare con i nostri amati simulatori di guida, se usati con precisione e avendo a disposizioni dati accurati delle vetture reali. As for my latest post here, it will cover some performance studies I did with the simulator about LMP1-L cars. I hope many of you will have a chance to read it without getting too bored! Beside this, I was pretty busy lately, both on fun (technical) and private side. I moved into a new apartment, this meaning that for a certain time I could not really access my pc freely and all the simulation work had to stop. Anyway, the new apartment offers me a new room for my simulation hardware, this meaning I could even post some videos sometime in the future because I know have some space for some interesting upgrades and I should be able to have something to show on video without having to shame myself!

  11. Hi all Since release of V0.9 I worked almost on the missing teams and physics. After release of V1.0 the work still continues because there is everytime some space for improvements. changements since V0.9: - all 31 cars (18 Teams) are included, so you need to set opponents:30 to have a full grid. - physics are revised a bit: downforce reduced 25% , gearboxes are not more semiautomatic and a few more things.Old setups dont work anymore. - new sounds from Montesky that have done a fantastic job. - little graphic improvements like helmet size etc. - new pace-car Porsche 959 Credits: Big Thanks to Montesky that have done the complete soundpack. I release also a trackpack with 7 tracks. Nothing new, included are all my tracks I created in the past. They are renamed to V1.1 with some bug-fixing and they are all in 1 directory now. The work continues on the tracks and my target is to have in the future all tracks for this season. I have been preparing for race weekends slightly differently in 2015 and I now go to Strakka Performance regularly to use their Simulator, usually after Shakedown on a Thursday afternoon. If I am honest I was always sceptical of the benefits of Simulator’s since because it is not real and you can ‘cheat’ on a Simulator, I often thought well there isn’t much point using one then.     L'amico Andrea ci segnala direttamente sul forum un suo articolo molto interessante, seguito di un precedente suo pezzo pubblicato a inizio 2014, riguardo la realizzazione della fisica per simulatori di guida a partire da dati reali e accurati. In particolare l'articolo di oggi confronta dati di telemetria reali con quelli simulati, grazie al lavoro fatto da Andrea per un team di categoria LMP3. Trovate anche diversi grafici di telemetria per dimostrare quanto vicine le performance di una vettura riprodotta in rFactor possano essere a quelle della vettura reale. Buona lettura! This will be a relatively short article but hopefully interesting for all the people involved with driving simulation or simply interested to it. As the title already says, today i would like to briefly show and discuss some pictures related to one of the latest driving simulation projects i am working on. The project is not ended yet and the model is not 100% finished as well (or, to be precise, it is more or less finished in its base configuration but i would like to add more setup options for the benefit of the final user and these options are not it yet), but since it already shows good promise, i though i could show some pictures here to underline, once again, how close to real car performance you can go with a cheap commercial software like rFactor.

    rFactor arriva su Steam!

    Il team ISI ha annunciato oggi l'arrivo sulla piattaforma digitale Steam del suo glorioso rFactor: fino al 9 marzo sarà possibile acquistarlo con lo sconto del 15%, al prezzo di 19,54€. rFactor 1 is now available on Steam! It is currently on sale, 15% off the regular $24.99 price until March 9th. We've added achievements, fixed a few issues and got rid of the activations, etc, for those using Steam. Although users are still welcome to buy from ISI as well. It is completely cross-platform compatible with the non-Steam release. This has been a useful exercise in finding out what the options and limitations are with Steam. We can't yet be tied down to a definitive answer on whether rFactor 2 will find its way to Steam, but it looks quite likely at this time.
  17. The Most Spectacular Sports Cars have finally returned to your Computer. Finally is absolutely the right word. We are the first to say it took us a very, VERY long time to build. Personally we see it as a great victory of endurance that we where able to push on for such a long time. It was sometimes hard to keep working on this and just because we as friends helped each other we made it. Now prepare to be transported back in time and relive the overwhelming sound and fury of racing cars from 1976 to 1988, showcased in unprecedented detail. There are 58 cars, 514 liveries, and a custom UI. Never before has a collaboration of artists and engineers come together to produce such an encapsulating mod for rFactor1. All cars are modelled to look identical to their real life variants. The Porsche 956, Lancia LC-2, and Jaguar XJR-5 where reworked from the F1C models and all other models created from scratch. Textures were made with the help of thousands of images and videos, and lots of discussions on forums. Sounds were taken from samples of the real cars where possible. Physics were made and tuned from real data and information from mechanics and drivers of the actual cars. Some of these cars are hard to drive fast. Some are very easy. We tried to use the tire info from the period and not from cars that drive today (which would have made things way more easy.) Because of the immense size of this mod, we decided to split the mod up in three parts. There are NO tracks in this mod. AI training is done for tracks Virtua_LM created and that helps the AI be more responsive, drive better lines, and not stop suddenly. Please read the readme file carefully.     Seguendo le orme di tanti altri sviluppatori, anche il team ISI decide finalmente di approdare con il suo software su Steam: proprio da oggi è possibile votare a questo indirizzo di Steam Greenlight per far approvare dalla nota piattaforma di digital delivery il download del primo rFactor.     rFactor: Endurance Series SP3 in arrivo

    Thoose cars are going to be released on the platform rFactor1 under the name "Endurance Series SP3". The Endurance Series mod will be then ported on the platform rFactor2 by ISI. It will include cars from the rFactor1 version and 2 more cars. The mod will be then considered as finished. Previously, to learn the platform, the team will release the mod "Flat6 Series" on the platform rFactor2. The shedule is the following one : Development and release of the Endurance Series SP3 for rFactor1. Development and release of the Flat6 Series mod for rFactor2. Development and release of the Endurance Series mod (carlist to be unveiled later) for rFactor2. Why rFactor2 ? This is currently the only new platform wich simulates endurance racing features. In addition, the game is now more stable than month ago. The dev team has released the modding tools and keep improving them. The team will anyway keep an eye on the other platforms developments.

    rFactor: GTPC sta arrivando...

    Questa volta ci siamo per davvero: il Virtua_LM Junior team ha annunciato su Facebook, pubblicando anche un video, il prossimo arrivo dell'atteso GTPC Mod per rFactor, un lavoro che dovrebbe garantire la gioia dei numerosi appassionati di prototipi e gare endurance sul glorioso sim targato ISI. For many, MANY years our team is working on our "little" baby, Today we are happy to show you the first offical teaser for the mod. Yes we know many other movies where made but this one is official. So what about release? We hope to deliver soon. The bug list is small. (very small!!) We will do one more internal beta to test everything and then release this baby finally. Sure Errors will be found after release and wil be taken care of.. After that it is time to move on to another project for us. What it will be is still question mark for us but 99% sure car releated. Enjoy!!! Oh and spare me.. It is the first time I ever worked with a video editing tool...

    Endurance Series: la MC12 in arrivo!

    Dopo una prima immagine che aveva già scatenato i primi sospetti, il team Enduracers ci conferma ufficialmente oggi il prossimo arrivo della spettacolare Maserati MC12, che sarà inserita nel già noto ed apprezzato Endurance Series mod per rFactor. EnduRacers today confirms that the Maserati MC12 joins the grid of the Endurance Series mod. The car is under development and will be released together with the other cars unveiled since the SP2.1 release, in packages and platforms yet to be announced.
