Saranno supportati i server dedicati? ENGLISH First, let's unveil those behind this mysterious nickname "ghiboz" ...: 14_relaxed: Who is it? What does he do? What experience does mister ghiboz come from? The nick ghiboz was given to me at the time of middle school, born from the distortion of my surname 'ghibaudo'. I've always been a super enthusiast of cars, car races but especially rallies, ever since I was a child and my father took me to see the Lemon rally, which was passing right next to my house ... In life as a 'real' job I do the software programmer for automated warehouses. Programming has always attracted me to become a job. The launch trailer for gRally starts with the phrase "everything starts from a dream, a dream of a man": what does it mean? It was simply a dream of mine, born at the time of the release of screamer rally, where, as an ignorant full of 3d, programming, physics, mechanics, I said .. but .. how nice it would be to make a rally game ... then that dream remained closed in the drawer for so many years, where I completely turned away from computers and machine games. Your team was already known to rally enthusiasts for the RBR Online modding project: what made you think of a totally new and complex project like gRally? What was missing or no longer satisfied with RBR Online, which was very successful? RBR-Online was an unforgettable and rewarding experience of my life, which allowed me to know a world totally unknown to me (online racing) and many people. As in all the adventures, even in RBR-O there were difficult times, also due to the fact that RBR-O was in fact a 'virus' that was going to affect the game .. this led to have the wings clipped to be able to do something really interesting. So the gRally dream has grown little by little, involving a growing number of fans: from whom and from how many people is the team behind gRally composed today? gRally was born in parallel with the experience of RBR-Online, first only as a testing ground to learn, understand and try to overcome all the difficulties of programming a game, especially a driving simulator. Currently, the actual people who work on the project are 5. We have also several collaborators who help us on specific projects You started almost as a game, almost to realize how much you could expand the modding experience of RBR Online: when did you realize that gRally could become a reality? Initially gRally was born as a game, having been tired of hacking with RBR-Online, I wanted to see what was behind a game, having finally the ability to create and manage the sources and consequently "do what you want"; obviously at the beginning it was really ugly and untraceable .. then over time it started to become interesting, to be always more beautiful to drive. I thought gRally would make sense when Syd stopped teasing me and started having fun driving. But until then, I thought more than anything else about how to make it beautiful and driveable by exploiting the "power to do what you want", considering that I finally had the possibility to create and manage the sources of a game. gRally is an "Indie" project: what does it mean? In my opinion the term 'indie', as in music, is used inappropriately, gRally I would call it more a project 'garage night owl', because we all carry it further development in our free time. This is one of the main reasons that is causing long development times. By your own choice and admission, gRally is a project entirely devoted to the purest rallystical simulation: do not you fear that the market and therefore sales are excessively limited? Yes, it could be, but the idea is to create a sim "different" from what the panorama offers and not having, for now, binding economic re-entry plans as all software houses rightly have, we have that freedom to develop less commercial aspects but closer to the needs of those who want simulate a rally. For now, we believe that having the page with the early access on Steam is still a victory ... hopefully the first of many! However, we are aware that numbers with the maximum simulation have never got along well, in fact it is not our intention to consider ourselves an alternative to titles such as Dirt or WRC X, but a project born from nothing with nothing, that if it manages to excite and entertain other people besides us, make us proud and happy! gRally will be released without any official license and with few cars: do not you fear it could be a problem? Is it possible for the future to assume some official licenses and an increase in the number of cars available? I start answering the last question: surely the number of cars, like the number of specials, will increase, counting both on modding support and on the release of our new content not yet ready. Surely the purchase of some licenses would be another huge step for us but I see it hard for an economic discourse currently not compatible with our reality. One advantage of initially having few cars is that which allows us to further optimize the physics of the cars, starting with few cases to manage and modify. gRally is a title oriented to third-party modding for cars and tracks: how do you plan to support modders? Will you perform a "quality control" on modding jobs? We will support modders by issuing tools to be used within Unity that are basically the same ones we use to develop our own content. We are considering using the Steam Workshop for mod handling, so as to give a contribution to those who devote time to modeling cars and tracks. To date it is too early to make an official "quality control". We trust, at least initially, that, as in other realities, the communities will filter the contents for them more appropriate, including the best jobs in their leagues. gRally is based on the same idea of online competition of RBR Online: how will it be possible to compete online with other users? Will the dedicated servers be supported? At the moment the online mode is the same as that of RBR-O, so you will do the same test at the same time or almost (almost due to the difference in time that the PC takes to load the special test). For the dedicated servers at the moment we plan to manage the iRacing style online rallies, so concentrate on our servers, but depending on the request that there will be, you can create a 'server' module gRally will support all the different types of peripherals, including VR: will it require a PC that is particularly powerful to be enjoyed 100%? We are using pc 'penultimate generation' for the development, so you do not have to have a monstrous pc .. certainly represent the natural environment where rallying is usually carried out involves a geometric complexity and very high materials and this requires a higher load . Thanks to the ability to set the parameters of the graphics we will try to make the experience enjoyable for multiple configurations possible. gRally supports various types of track and bottom conditions, as well as day and night: will they be dynamic changes? Will they influence the physics and dynamics of the vehicle and therefore the driving? yes, at the moment the dynamic changes will be related to the wear of the road, but static for the special .. let me explain: if I do a rally on land and I leave first I will have the road 'smooth' and dirty, while if I leave 50 ° will form of the furrows in the road and I will have the cleanest road, so a greater grip .. this is not 100% dynamic since in the rallies I do not repeat the test several times. In the rally the role of the co-pilot with his notes is of fundamental importance: is it also in gRally? What will be its peculiarities and options available? In gRally there is the 'reconnaissance' option, which allows you to take the special test at a reduced pace, making the lines without smudging, where they are record the movements of the machine and the subjective notes are generated. This method (also used in the real world, given the reduced surveys) has the advantage that for example a Right two is a right two everywhere, so you can completely rely on the navigator, there will be no wrong notes. The second pass of the notes is being processed, ie the addition of those notes that the system automatically can not calculate. Each driver can adjust the various corners of the curves in order to change (globally and gradually) all the notes, he can adjust the note advance parameters. Already in RBR Online, there were many real pilots who enjoyed and were passionate about the simulated rally, we will find them also in gRally? Have you cooperated with real rally drivers for the realization of gRally? How did they support you? I hope so! at the moment we did try gRally to some pilots and surfers and they gave us important tips, both on physics and on rallies in general. I think it will take some time to find real pilots, also because being 'small', many pilots not in the 'sim' sector do not know us. Teams or car companies have somehow participated and collaborated in the gRally project? no, I met mechanics and technicians who gave us help but in a friendly way Have you had special technical data available for the construction of the cars? no, also because gRally was born as a rally simulator of the years 70-80, where electronics did not yet exist and mechanics was everything: this for different reasons, one because the 'vintage' rally guide was a dirty, brutal, tiring and also fun and rewarding guide, and above all, for the physical-simulative side, simpler to simulate, or better, more sincere and transparent. Of course, finding technical data of cars so old is really difficult. How did you develop the tire behavior? What should we expect from our tires? The development of the tires was and is tough, also because the rally tires are special, they are not like the track tires where just a blocked that you have to throw them, or that just touch the grass or the earth go to the head tail .. unfortunately, even along a special asphalt road, with asphalt tires, it is normal to put two wheels in the grass or dirt, so we focused so much on this aspect, to give a truthful physique crossing the various types of tires with the various surfaces. What should we expect to drive regarding the physics and dynamics of the vehicle? How have you developed them? My goal is to convey to the driver of gRally a sincere behavior of the machine, that makes you understand immediately that the curve does not you'll never do it, so you do not drive by heart, but driving sensations. The force feedback in a title like gRally turns out to be fundamental to understand how our car behaves: to what results have you arrived? Are you already satisfied? I'm quite satisfied because I think he can convey what the wheels are doing in contact with the road. The force feedback is a difficult matter, because many drivers confuse the forces that make the steering wheel rotate with the forces that make the car jump: if you take a perpendicular city and watch the steering wheel, this does not turn, but the blow you hear ... e in the simulator? where do not you have a motion cockpit? what should you hear? these are questions that have made me reflect and even in some cases make some steps back to give more feelings to those who drive. From the published images, gRally seems definitely nice to see: what can you tell us about it? thank you very much for the compliment! the graphic rendering is always very difficult to obtain, especially for a product like gRally, where it points to WYSIWYG, that is a puddle of water, it is also physical, the road is dirty and ruined, it has a different grip from a nice clean road .. This has created us many difficulties and also discussions, because you see around the sample projects with phenomenal graphics, but we also have a machine that has to turn over! Naturally the car setup will be absolutely realistic under every aspect and parameter .... Yes, for the setup I have made a 'old style rallying' approach, that is to make the setup of the initial machine, where obviously adjust and set the various parameters, but then, in the assistance parks, a pilot can not mount the springs from 5.48 N / mm instead of those from 5.49, and therefore even if, for some cars, the setup seems bare, it's because in reality (especially with 'vintage' machines) you do not have unlimited but well-defined options. In gRally it will also be possible to use closed circuits, such as rallycross ones? Yes, one of the special tests (gArena) is in a closed circuit, with a mix of asphalt, earth and gravel to travel 3 times. At the moment there is not a rally cross mode because, for now it is only possible to race against the clock. Do you foresee the development of DLC with cars or tracks in the future? Yes, even if it is very early that cars and special tests will be there. In general I can say that we like the idea of making the DLC a mutual exchange between us and users, releasing DLC that introduce improvements to the sim even for those who do not purchase additional packages, a bit 'as happens with Arma3. To clarify the concept, let's take a more concrete example: let's say we release a DLC with some 4wd cars. The development of four-wheel drive will not remain isolated to those cars but will also become available in the tools that the modder will have to develop their cars. We forgot one last thing: but the "g" of gRally what does it mean? As a last question, the most difficult question ... simply the g stands for ghiboz
