Il 23 Maggio 1983 Stefan Bellof fece segnare un tempo record al Norschleife a bordo della sua Porsche 956: 6:11.130, un tempo straordinario che è rimasto imbattuto fino al 2018, quando Timo Bernhard a bordo della Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo fece segnare un tempo più veloce di quasi un minuto, girando in 5:19.550. Porsche per battere il suo stesso record ha dato carta bianca agli ingegneri che hanno potuto creare una vettura libera da qualsiasi vincolo regolamentare: il motore turbo V4 da 2L collegato all'asse posteriore passa infatti da 500 cv a 720, mentre il motore elettrico collegato all'asse anteriore passa da 400 a 440 cv. Inoltre la vettura dispone di un sistema DRS come quello montato sulle vetture di Formula 1. Questa stessa vettura aveva permesso in precedenza a Porsche di battere nel 2017 anche il record a Spa, precedentemente appartenente a Lewis Hamilton su Mercedes W08.
Il team Madness Garage, in collaborazione con Jonz, ha realizzato proprio la Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo come tributo a Stefan Bellof, scomparso tragicamente nel 1985 durante la 1000 km di Spa. Jonz inoltre ha creato uno splendido video dedicato proprio all'impresa di Porsche e della 919 Evo.
