The new SRO E-Sport Championship will launch this month at Silverstone, kicking off a series of Assetto Corsa Competizione races that will play out at the world's most iconic and challenging circuits.

Organised by SRO E-Sport GT Series, Kunos Simulazioni and Ak Informatica, the new multi-event concept follows hot on the heels of a popular charity race at Monza (29 March) which raised money for the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. The inaugural contest featured real-world GT drivers, pro sim racers and several wildcard entrants selected through a public hot-lap competition.

Building on this successful one-off event, the SRO E-Sport Championship will see three classes competing in separate races before the best from each come together for a deciding final. The Pro Series will feature real-world GT drivers, while the Silver Series will be reserved for dedicated pro sim racers. Both are set to undertake five rounds and the top-20 points scorers from each will progress to June's grand finale.

The opening contest will take place at Silverstone on Sunday 26 April, beginning a run of five races in eight weekends. Round two will be staged at Spa-Francorchamps (10 May), a track synonymous with GT racing as host of the marquee Total 24 Hours of Spa. Next, competitors will tackle the 4.5km Nürburgring layout (17 May) followed by round four at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (31 May).

The fifth event will conclude the regular season on 14 June. Exactly where the action is staged will be determined by a public vote, giving fans the opportunity to choose from a range of world-leading circuits featured in Assetto Corsa Competizione. Each race will enjoy full coverage across a range of channels, including the GT World YouTube and Dailymotion accounts and the SRO Motorsports Twitch and Facebook pages

The Am Series will take place over five consecutive Saturdays from 16 May. Entrants will be decided by an open hot-lap qualifying that runs from 26 April to 10 May, with the fastest 40 earning their spot on the grid. They will tackle the same set of circuits as the Pro and Silver drivers, racing at Silverstone (16 May), Spa (23 May), Nürburgring (30 May), Barcelona (6 June) and a to-be-decided venue on 13 June. Each event will be live-streamed on Twitch.

A total of 50 drivers will participate in the deciding contest, with the venue once again selected by public vote. Pre-registration is open now onwww.sro-esport.com, with further details and race formats for the inaugural SRO E-Sport Championship set to be revealed next week.

Bentley Motorsport enters the 2020 SRO E-Sport GT Series

  • Real-world racing drivers from Bentley’s works and customer teams to be entered in the ‘Pro’ class events
  • Squad of elite sim racers represent Bentley in ‘Silver’ class
  • Bentley colleagues and fans around the world invited to represent the brand in the ‘Am’ class events
  • 2020 Bentley Motorsport works livery is launched in Assetto Corsa Competitizione to celebrate

Bentley Motorsport has stepped firmly into the world of esports by announcing entry into its debut sim racing championship - the SRO E- Sport GT Series – a six-round series held by the organisers of many of the manufacturer’s real-world GT3 races. The entry will see Bentley field squads in the ‘Pro’ class race for real-world racers and the ‘Silver’ class race for elite sim racers, and show support for all Continental GT3 drivers, including Bentley colleagues and fans around the world, in the ‘Am’ class events.

To celebrate the announcement, the 2020 works team livery, worn by the Bathurst 12 Hours race-winning Continental GT3, will be available for all Assetto Corsa Competizione users to download from 14.00 BST today. Bentley’s Director of Motorsport, Paul Williams, comments:

“Whether a real world racer, a pro sim racer or a gamer who races for fun, if you choose to race in the Continental GT3, you are part of our esports family. To support this growing family, we have entered as a manufacturer for the SRO E-Sport GT Series, and engaged our real-world race team to assist drivers with set- up and social media promotion”

“We are working closely with our partners at Kunos, the developers of Assetto Corsa Compeitizione, to ensure we are prepared for the season ahead and are talking to professional sim racers who can not only represent us on track but can also assist our real world racers with in-game set-up and racing style.

“We have chosen to step into the huge sim racing arena with our trusted partners at SRO and take a very focused and targeted approach. We entered the SRO E- Sport GT Series Charity Challenge a few weeks ago and were incredibly impressed with the quality of the production and the racing. This is definitely the right place for us to be competing - it caters for our incredible loyal fans who have raced the Continental GT3 in the Assetto Corsa Competizione game for the last few years, while also enabling our real world racing fans to join us as we step into the world of esports.”

The six-round series mirrors events in the GT World Challenge Europe, the real world series in which Bentley Motorsport has competed since 2014, taking championship and race wins along the way.

Andrea Caldarelli, FFF Racing Team by ACM Team Principal:
“I’m happy to announce this “FFF Award” for online drivers in the SRO E-Sports Championship. As FFF, we have been very interested as a racing group to trust and invest in the growing online platform of E-Sports racing, considering it not just a game but a real racing discipline. Already last year, together with SRO, Kunos and AK Informatica, we gave the chance to the 2019 E-Sports drivers to have a taste on track of our real Huracan GT3 EVO. For this reason, we wanted to go even further with the concept this year and give the chance to an E-Sports driver driving our car in the SRO E-Sports Championship to test our real car. We are going one step forward, letting the Real and Sim Racing worlds merge. The entire team and I will look at this series with great interest in the next few months”.
