The Rescale

We're very excited to make a big announcement, but first we need to give you a little backstory. Back when we were beginning research work on American Truck Simulator, just a few months after the release of Euro Truck Simulator 2, SCS Software was a team of about 20 people. We made, and kept, a commitment to actively support and expand ETS2, so the core team on the ATS project at that point was just a handful of developers. We hoped that some day the team would grow to be a modest 8-10 people large. They were facing a monumental challenge in trying to portray the continent of North America on a reasonable scale within a feasible time frame.

ATS 1.4 open beta
We're happy to announce that the open beta of update 1.4 for American Truck Simulator is now available on Steam!
With 1.4 we're introducing a lot of changes to the core game. You'll find a condensed changelog at the bottom of this blog post, but first let's recap the major features that we'd like to bring to your attention (including a surprise feature - trailer selection).

MAIN FEATURES

  • Custom steering wheel position - You'll be allowed to modify both the height and the angle of the steering wheel so you can create your perfect driving position.

  • Trailer selection - We have recently changed how trailer data are organized under the hood in the game engine. More flexibility will come handy; one trailer 3D model can have multiple looks - different "paints" - textures - for example to represent different companies), and there may actually be multiple trailers compatible with the same cargo type. As we are adding new companies, trailers, and cargoes to the game (and so are modders), the old system was no longer sufficient.

    When you pick a job to transport, the game will now give you a chance to change the trailer look (or the trailer itself) if it finds that there are alternate possibilities available for transporting given cargo.

American Truck Simulator Rescale Screenshots #2
It's high time for the next batch of screenshots from the ATS Map Rescale project! We are very happy with our progress on the project. We're finishing work faster than we initially anticipated. It is safe to say we're pretty far along overall, but there are still a few areas where we are still working on the first iteration of the redesign - so don't start holding your breath quite yet.
As of right now we're estimating it will still be several weeks before we start internal testing - only after which the game update will go into the highly anticipated Open Beta. Until then, we hope these screenshots will tide you over.

La SCS Software ha rilasciato oggi un doppio aggiornamento per i suoi amati simulatori dedicati al mondo dei camion da trasporto: sono infatti disponibili tramite Steam la release 1.4 di American Truck Simulator e la versione 1.25 di Euro Truck Simulator 2. Oltre al tipico bugfixing, non mancano alcune migliorie e novità interessanti, spiegate qui di seguito.

The Day of the Updates

We are happy to announce that the final version of the 1.4 update for American Truck Simulator and 1.25 for Euro Truck Simulator 2 are now available via Steam. Big thanks to all of you who have contributed with your feedback and bug reports during the Open Beta period!

Let's recap the key features included with these updates:

  • [ETS2 only] Completely revamped DAF XF - we've reworked the old model and improved the it in many areas, increased the detail of textures, and remodeled quite a few of the parts.

     

  • Trailer selection -  When you pick up a new job the game will now give you a chance to change the trailer look (or the trailer itself) if it finds that there are alternate trailer styles or textures available for the given cargo.  Even better, it works with modded trailers as well.
  • Custom steering wheel position -You'll be allowed to adjust the tilt of the steering wheel column or telescope it so you can create your perfect driving position.

Here's a log of the additional fixes and improvements that went into this update:

CODE

  • Cruise control is not disabled by the throttle anymore.
  • Interior camera zoom - You can bind the key for zoom in Options → Key and buttons → Camera controls → Zoom interior camera.
  • Option to set preferred job length generation in options.
  • Option to set split shifting input.
  • More unit display options (volume, consumption).
DATA
  • Steering wheels are now a separate model with a default and exclusive version for each truck
  • Steering knobs - six different steering knobs in each game; you are able to install them at four possible locations on a steering wheel.
  • [ATS only] Customizable cabin lights and horns on all trucks.
  • Low air warning sound added.
MODDING
  • Separated map_data.sii from game_data.sii
  • Look_presets_defaults[] in interior camera
  • Change trailer looks to paint jobs.

ATS World Rescale Open Beta

We are ready to show you our progress at the American Truck Simulator map rescale project!

Some places could still benefit from additional love, but the pieces of the puzzle are already in place, and now we would appreciate your feedback. Please keep in mind that our goal was not to completely rebuild the whole world, so set your expectations accordingly. Changing the scale from 1:35 into 1:20 gave us a lot more room for better placement of intersections and interchanges, and a chance to introduce some roads and places for which there was not enough space in the old map. But we've kept in place the parts that were working as expected in our view, so of course you will still recognize most of the destinations.

Dopo essersi dedicato negli ultimi mesi ad Euro Truck Simulator 2, col rilascio dell'update 1.26 e del DLC Vive la France!, il team SCS Software accontenta oggi anche gli appassionati americani di camion, con l'aggiornamento 1.5 del suo American Truck Simulator. Oltre a vari bugfix e migliorie tecniche, il nuovo update ci offre un grande "world rescale", ovvero un ampliamento della mappa originale del gioco ed un maggiore dettaglio. ATS World Rescale is released in Update 1.5!
We are happy to announce that our work on the rescale of American Truck Simulator world is finished! Looking back, we see thousands of hours that we have invested into this project over the last six months. Our efforts have produced a result which we’re very proud of; the reworked road network is much closer to reality. We've made another big step on our quest to show the United States as they really are, as they can be seen by truck drivers in real life.
In recent months, we have kept you updated about the rescale project of the American Truck Simulator world from 1:35 to 1:20. The changes are quite extensive, with the different world scale comes also a longer day-night cycle and rebalancing of the economy, so the gaming experience is changing way more than would be expected through "mere patch" of an existing game.   • Scale 1:35 → 1:20 – 1,75x larger map
  • Hundreds of miles of new longer roads
