VELOCIPEDE
Polyphony Digital has taken an unusual – though certainly welcome – opportunity to announce scheduled downtime for Gran Turismo 5‘s online services through mid-September. While it is not clear what, if anything, these maintenance periods will bring with them in the form of software updates, it’s worth noting the release of new GT5 versions have frequently been released after network downtime. Here’s the schedule, though actual start and end times may vary: August 23, 2011, 10:00-16:00 EST August 29, 2011, 22:00-23:00 EST September 6, 2011, 10:00-18:00 EST September 13, 2011, 10:00-18:00 EST Kazunori Yamauchi has already confirmed we’ll be receiving a “lean” late August update, so it is reasonable to assume it will become available after one of this month’s maintenance windows. Thanks to Blake for the tip!
speedpn

VELOCIPEDE
nuova patch 1.12 In a surprise move, Polyphony Digital has released a new GT5 update less than one week after 1.11 brought a batch of bug fixes and a Jeff Gordon driving suit.Update v1.12 continues with the bug-fixing theme, though the only documented change is a correction to a glitch with the Limited Slip Differential controller for FF cars. As such, this update is very light, weighing in at only 13MB. Thanks to all of you who sent this in so quickly! VELOCIPEDE
Special Mercedes GT5 Seasonal Event Coming Monday The Mercedes-Benz Live Race with David Coulthard is shaping up to be quite an event, with the latest announcement confirming that players worldwide will be able to take part from within Gran Turismo 5. At 14:20 UTC/GMT this Monday, September 5th, David Coulthard will take the wheel of a real 6.3 litre V8 powered Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. His opponents will be GT5 players around the planet, who will simultaneously pit their wits against the world-class professional driver, driving the same car through a special Seasonal Event within the game. The track will remain a secret until the contest begins to give everyone (including Coulthard!) a fair chance. Meanwhile, at Mercedes-Benz World in Brooklands, England, 24 prize draw winners will be battling to qualify for their place in the competition. Those who set the top six qualifying times will compete against Coulthard in real time at the flagship venue where visitors are welcome to come and watch the action for themselves. The contestant from Mercedes-Benz World that sets the fastest lap will win an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2011 Brazilian Formula 1 Grand Prix. Video of the event will be streamed live on Monday, right here on GTPlanet, starting at 14:00 UTC/GMT (convert this to your local time). Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more information over the next few days.
