Il team di sviluppo dell'atteso iRacing ha annunciato la nuova partnership ufficiale con il tracciato americano di Long Beach, che sarà quindi presente nel gioco riprodotto nei minimi dettagli.

iRacing.com Motorsport Simulations today announced a partnership with the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach that may just change street-circuit racing forever. The 1.968-mile course created from public streets closed to traffic for three days each year will be incorporated into iRacing.com's highly sophisticated racing simulation, effectively making permanent what once was temporary. The result: unprecedented, year-round access for teams to prepare for the world-famous Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

#CONTINUE#

"This course only exists in its entirety for three days a year, so race teams previously had no opportunity to test and tune in preparation for the race, and amateur racers were resigned to the fact that they'd never have a chance to experience one of the most celebrated circuits in our sport. All of that's going to change now," said Scott McKee, vice president of marketing for iRacing.com. "The effort involved in accurately replicating a downtown street circuit is enormous, but so are the implications of our partnership with a unique and legendary track like Long Beach."

The partnership marks the first street circuit to be included in iRacing.com's motorsport simulation, a software package designed as a training tool for real-world racers. The simulation combines a proprietary track-building process with accurate and authentic driving dynamics to make seat-time in the simulation as valid and valuable as time spent on-track.

"For more than 30 years, some of the biggest names in motorsport have been drawn to Long Beach because of the unique challenge of the track and the opportunity to compete with the best in the business," said Jim Michaelian, president and chief executive officer of the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach. "By scanning this track and making it available to racers as a training tool, iRacing.com immortalizes what it means to be a part of this event and allows competitors of all levels to experience the excitement and challenge of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach year-round."

The iRacing.com production team began the data gathering process on April 4, with one crew laser scanning every inch of the racing surface and adjacent barriers from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. each night to capture the every crack, curb and camber change of the seaside street course. A second crew worked in the daylight hours to take thousands of photographs that will help artists replicate every detail of the track and its surroundings.

"Thanks to the help of Dwight Tanaka, director of operations for the Grand Prix, and his team and the cooperation of the Long Beach Police Department, we were able to integrate our scanning activities into their already complex pre-event build schedule," said Greg Hill, vice president of art and production at iRacing.com. "We still have a long way to go before the virtual version of Long Beach will be ready, but we're off to a really great start."

Data gathering, which will conclude at the end of race-week, is just the first of many tasks in the painstaking, months-long production process. Next steps include extraction of the data from scanning, laying out the spline of the racetrack, modeling trackside objects and creating textures for all of the myriad surfaces in view from every vantage point around the circuit.

As netKar PRO celebrates its 1-year anniversary some changes are announced. From now on I have joined the netKar PRO team. I will carry out various tasks, but the one you will notice most is that I will be the 'linking pin' between you (the community) and the netKar PRO development team.

#CONTINUE#

The change
The main goal is ... yes, to communicate! In the past, Stefano himself was active in the forums sometimes, then 'disappeared' again. You can imagine he is pretty busy with managing the sim and the relationship with and work for BRD. This resulted in a lack of communication from the team to the actual customers - you guys out there

What some of you suggested in the past months was that it was needed to have 'some guy' from the community who can provide official information and deal with questions. Well, that is exactly what happened. Periodically, I will meet with Stefano and we will discuss the current developments, progress and issues. I will then take this information and bring it to you guys out there.
This gives 1) the customers official information and a person 'to talk to' and 2) Stefano a little air to breathe. Also, it will make sure that there is always somewhere and someone to go to verify information which will avoid people to jump to wrong conclusions.

For now, this communication will occur mostly using the RSC & DI netKar PRO forums. This can change in the future, but for now these are the main 'community communication channels' for me. If you have suggestions in terms of additional channels, let me know.

What can you expect from me.. and what not?
I won't be able to answer all your questions of course. I also won't be able to give release dates. I can and will answer questions as far as I can and will collect questions and raise them in meetings with the development team.
Also, even though I am part of the team, this gives me no real power to influence the developments or priorities. So please do not "shoot the messenger". I am here to provide you with information from the team and to link the team with the community - a link that is really needed. But, priorities are defined by BRD and the netKar PRO development team so please bear this in mind when urged to press the ‘Reply’ button to write an angry post

Last Saturday, Stefano and I had the first of our meetings in which we discussed the progress, the current developments and things to come. We also walked through a document that I prepared containing the 'community feedback', which is a list with things that you guys want to see added or improved. This makes sure that the things you really want to see changed are being put into the development team. Of course, time is the most important enemy. Time is limited, especially as the development team is really small and has various responsibilities which doesn't allow them to 100% work on the customer netKar PRO all the time.

Tracks
Finally, my position means that I will stop working on tracks. My latest work was done on Spa-Francorchamps. This work is completely finished now so I will release Spa-Francorchamps and then stop the work. The good news however is that something will replace my work. I will elaborate on this in my first 'netKar PRO Community Update', which will be released today.
What I'm aiming to achieve is to create a better understanding for you guys out there of what is happening. This way you know better what is going on, what is causing delay. Just ask questions when you want. It could well be that you will receive an answer .. or maybe a 'I don't know'. At least normal questions will be answered instead of a continuing silence.

Remember, this is an unpaid position which I am doing in my spare time besides my normal work. See me as 'one of you' who has the possibility to be a linking pin with the team and who made sure you guys get more and official information on what is going on. Please have some patience with me when I don't always respond quickly. I am doing the best I can giving the time I have available. It is all part of making the situation better for you guys out there.
I hope you appreciate this communication change between the community and the development team. I think that it will improve the situation a lot. If you have anything that needs clarification, let me know.

Commenti a questo post del forum.

Per quanto riguarda invece ulteriori dettagli riguardo l'attesa prossima patch ufficiale versione 1.03, ecco arrivare un interessante aggiornamento:
netKar PRO Community Update #1
April 12th 2007
This first netKar PRO Community Update informs about the latest developments and inside information on the development team.
