That’s probably another good point to mention about rF2: There’s nothing short-term in the planning the company has. They intend for this product to get a lot more support than rFactor 1 in terms of updates, new features, new content and access to the team via the forums and Web site. Infact I’ve been responsible for a couple of really juicy pieces of content being licensed that will both be released as addons likely sometime in 2012.

Next? Well the most recent thing I posted otherwise was that finally, FINALLY, we’re getting some of the graphics effects plugged into the development build of the software. This means that finally, FINALLY, we’ll be able to put out some shots which are more representative of the looks of rFactor 2. This has probably been one of the hardest things for the community to understand, because most of them have never seen base art from a game before.

Leading up to the imminent release of F1 2011 by Codemasters, SimHQ is attempting to get an interview with representatives of the company, to talk with them about the new game and also about last year's, and we shall hasten to bring you their answers when, and if we get them. So far, we've been informed that the developers are very busy finishing the game, and appearing at various expos and at gamescom.
Previewing a game which has been marketed heavily on various game media sites as well as YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter, no doubt — as it is launched for PC, Xbox, PS3 and supplemented later by an online game is not easy — we could just direct you to the trailers, the developer diaries, the game-play videos, Twitter, etc. etc., but that would not really be contributing anything new.

How does the physics model in KartSim work regarding on kart dynamics (chassis flex, castor, no suspension etc…
The physics engine that we are using has been in development over the past 6 years. It allows us to simulate everything from track width, castor, toes, cambers, to chassis stiffness and ride heights. Obviously a kart is designed very differently to a car, which meant existing physics engines couldn’t be used in this application.

It would be easy to get the kart to jack the inside rear wheel by just giving it a lot of castor; but what happens when you add seat stays and there isn’t a lot of rubber down in the real world? The kart would just slide and the inside rear wouldn’t unload. In KartSim we are simulating the way the chassis flexes when different forces are induced and so if you add seat stays in the game and there isn’t a lot of rubber down, you will end up with a flat kart that understeers. Front clamps, torsion bars, running rear crash bars tight or loose etc, are all fully simulated allowing for realistic handling.
