Milestone, the largest Italian racing game developer, guest at VR|46 in Tavullia for a very exclusive testing of Valentino Rossi The Game. After a few hours of testing and discussion with the development team, the guys gave us their feedback about possible in-game improvements and shared with us their Academy Riders’ experience. The VR|46 Academy is the core part of the new chapter of the greatest game dedicated to the MotoGP and the iconic character of Valentino Rossi and represents the first step to the success. All players will start their career from there, like active members of Academy to get to, race after race and challenge after challenge, the queen class: The MotoGP. The players will face choices, decisions, and objectives, to get the complete control of their own virtual alter-ego, to achieve the first place in the MotoGP Championship 2016 hall of fame.

Our physics engine allows us to input real values and get real results from that, so provided our data is good, the cars should always feel pretty accurate before anyone drives it.

RD: What sort of simulation are you aiming for here, are we looking at a faithful recreation of kart racing in a hardcore simulation style or maybe something more entry level and “simcade” orientated.
ZG: We’ve been getting this question quite a lot lately and let me assure you, KartKraft is a pure bred karting simulation. To explain what that actually means, a physics simulation at its core (in this explanation, an internal combustion engine revving by itself), is a set of parametric inputs (RPM, moment of inertia, torque vs RPM, throttle position etc), a set of equations called the model (angular acceleration = torque / moment of inertia, angular velocity = current angular velocity + angular acceleration * time) and a set of outputs (angular velocity / engine RPM). So essentially, you take the inputs, plug them into the equations, integrate them, and now you have the resulting angular velocity/RPM and torque output. Changing the amount of torque will change how fast the engine revs, as will the moment of inertia. The physics engine is made up of multiple models (engine, tyres, gearbox, suspension, aero etc) that all communicate with each other to simulate the complete vehicle.

“Ever since the announcement of the Oculus Rift and the team getting their hands on one of the early devkits we immediately knew the racing genre was going to be a perfect fit for virtual reality. With players already having an understanding of what it feels like to sit in the driving seat of a car, wheel peripherals already existing that provide a natural driving input, and the nature of racing being one of (hopefully!) forward motion, the ability to now wear a virtual helmet and experience the action through the driver’s eyes is the final piece of the puzzle allowing you to get as close as possible to the real thing.”

“Project CARS has always been regarded as one of the most beautiful racing games out there already but we’re always looking for new gameplay experiences too. Once you’ve peered closer at the fine detail we put into the cockpit of a supercar like the Pagani Huayra BC, hastily glanced left at a IndyCar trying to overtake, looked towards the apex whilst trying to nail a perfect lap, or even looked out of the back window whilst trying to reverse you’ll never be able to go back. Without a shadow of a doubt, virtual reality makes you a better racer and we fully expect many of our fans and Esports pros that already own sim racing setups will eagerly be adopting the Rift as the way to take their game to the next level.”

Thanks to Steam Workshop, you can download and install mods effortlessly from a safe and trusted place.
Here's a short how-to on downloading and activating mods from Steam Workshop:

Modding our games through Steam Workshop will require use of a dedicated tool for mod makers; a new dedicated Steam application - SCS Workshop Uploader. You can grab it from your Steam library under Tools category.
We have also prepared a Wiki with full SCS Steam Workshop Uploader documentation and modding tutorials where you can find guidance how to use our tools for mod creation.
Please note that at the moment we do not include support for map mods in the Uploader, this will come later but it requires more work on sanitization of all the data making up the map.
Ultimate Wheel Customization

As previewed in one of our previous blogs, we have expanded wheel customization options to match real-world customization flexibility. Wheels now consist of a tyre, a disk, nuts, a hub and a hub cover, and you can choose and tune each of them separately. We have recreated the old wheels in the game from these building blocks, but you can mix and match them freely now to get many more combinations. We have also tweaked the materials to bring you alu-disks which are the most regular type of disks used.
More Features and Improvements
Here's is log of additional fixes and improvements that went into this update:
