Nuova preview dedicata all'attesissimo Toca Race Driver 2 della Codemasters, pubblicata questa volta dal portale di GameSpy, che ci illustra nel dettaglio la nuova fisica dei danni implementata dal gioco.

The game will also feature real-time damage modeling, so while a few cuts and scraps to the paintwork won't hinder performance on the track, blasting into a wall at 120 MPH will almost certainly end the race for you. After my brief stint with TOCA Race Driver 2 I came away suitably impressed. I'm scheduled to take possession of a newer build of the game in the next few days, so look for an updated preview on GameSpy.com very soon.

The two most important factors for a Racing Simulator for me is Physics and Stable, Smooth online racing. I intend Sirocco to be very strong on both these areas. Graphics and sound add to the immersion in the sim, but I believe the physics core is what makes a sim special.

I would like to attempt to simulate a British Single make series, for example the TVR tuscan challenge or a Caterham or Westfield series. I think that single make series can result in very close, exciting and fun racing (fun in a Racing Sim?! Blashpemy!).

I am currently trying to implement smoothing (for collision detection) on the track. I would like to form curved surfaces from the triangles that make up the track. It is proving to be reasonably hard, but once I’ve cracked it I think the car will handle 100% better.

Windows smash, doors can be ripped open, and a head-on collision can end your race. And there are no fake 'resets' to miraculously restart you back on your way; you'll have to do the race all over again.

Racers get both audio and visual cues when damage is inflicted. In addition to the detailed body-panel deformation, paint chips and bits lying on the race track, drivers will be able to hear the gearbox dropping gears, engine clanking, brakes screaming and other internal malfunctions. When your car hurts, you'll know all about it.

But you won't be punished too much. "Race Over" means just that, but only for that race. The save system in TOCA Race Driver 2 saves after every event, so you'll only have to re-run that one race you really screwed up in order to progress.

The damage model system is based on detailed observation of real-life motor sports crashes, so you know this is as authentic as it gets!
Techland has today revealed the details of the first feature that is going to differentiate Xpand Rally from other upcoming racing games - it is the detailed environment of rally tracks. In order to increase the realism of sensations experienced by the player sitting behind the wheel of the car, it's been decided to reconstruct the surrounding of the road in highest details. It's been achieved with the use of a new graphics engine based on Chrome Engine but having much higher performance and fully utilizing DirectX 9 technology. Vast terrains modeled in detail and rendered with the use of textures of practically photographical quality, dense vegetation and large number of objects surrounding the tracks - all this, together with new lighting model, allowed to place the player on tracks whose surrounding looks almost like reality. All above has been presented in the first of a series of short videos from Xpand Rally that will reveal subsequent game's features. We encourage to discussion about them on the official game's forum www.xpandrally.com.
