L'importanza di OutRun 2 nel catalogo Xbox è dimostrata dagli accordi siglati tra Microsoft e Sega, che assegnano la distribuzione americana proprio alla casa di Redmond. La pubblicazione, come hanno anticipato diversi rivenditori statunitensi, è fissata ad ottobre. Tra le caratteristiche più importanti, si segnala il gioco in rete via Xbox Live per un massimo di otto persone, con l'aggiunta di classifiche mondiali e la possibilità di scaricare il "ghost" del nostro avversario (vale a dire la registrazione del suo miglior tempo) per sfidarlo nel gioco offline. Lo stesso titolo verrà distribuito in Europa direttamente da Sega attorno a fine anno.
