F1 2011 is an absolute triumph on the track. The new KERS and DRM systems give you welcome extra tactical ammunition and the new improved handling is beautifully weighted. Every corner feels like a challenge to be won, and with 19 tracks to race on, that makes for an almighty swathe of quality content. Get it, love it – and give each track the time and attention it deserves. It'll love you right back.

It's a familiarity that ultimately stops F1 2011 from ascending to the heights of the genre. Strip away the new lick of paint and it's tough to tell F1 2011 apart from its predecessor, and though it's certainly tighter, smarter and more technically accomplished, some of the old faults remain. A marginally better outing than last year, then, and that's enough to ensure that, as F1 games go, this is still quite comfortably the best.

F1 2011 is a great sequel which captures the fragility of an F1 car for the first time and features significant improvements over its predecessor. Its extremely steep learning curve will frustrate many novice racers but will delight serious F1 fans. You may need a force feedback steering wheel to master its handling at the most difficult level, but F1 2011 is a tremendously faithful re-creation of the sport, offering rewarding and strategic racing that simulation fans are sure to be playing for a long time to come.

Most of F1 2011’s problems only come to light when you kick over one too many rocks or you prod it too hard. Examine the environments close-up or grief the collision system by harpooning your way into clumps of competitors and, yes, the illusion will be temporarily shattered. Play it properly, however, and F1 2011 is an incredibly satisfying experience. Difficult and draining, but ultimately extremely rewarding. Few, if any, other racing games can truly match its intensity.

Overall, it's a steady but unspectacular evolution of a top racing series. More a dominating Vettel victory from pole than a last place-to-first Button turnaround, really, but a win's a win.

Formula 1 2011 fixes things that were broken, adds things that were missing and iterates wherever possible. It's the little things that the core F1 audience will appreciate: the oscillating body work, revamped pit stops, improved tyre degradation, a dynamic cloud system. While casual players might question whether much is different a year down the road after 2010, those in the know - those whose second home is behind a steering wheel - will agree that F1 2011 is the most complete representation of the sport to date.

F1 2011 rappresenta una bella evoluzione rispetto alla precedente versione. Codemasters ha saputo ascoltare gli utenti, correggendo dove c'era da correggere e aggiungendo dove era necessario aggiungere. In quest'ottica più che gradita è l'inserimento della Carriera cooperativa on line e dello split screen. Buono il modello di guida, adattabile a tutti, un pò meno buono il sistema dei danni, migliorato ma ancora non troppo incisivo. Tecnicamente di grande impatto, seppur con qualche magagna, con i 30 frame al secondo che si fanno sentire.

F1 2011 è un buon gioco di guida, ma non migliora in modo sensibile la prima edizione. Veloce e spettacolare, è perfetto per il pubblico di massa ma evitabile da chi è fedele alle simulazioni pure.

F1 2011 si rivela dunque una piacevole conferma per tutti gli amanti delle quattro ruote. La qualità complessiva dell'intero "pacchetto" è infatti più che soddisfacente e se a questo aggiungiamo la tanto attesa implementazione della safety car, i miglioramenti apportati al modello di guida, all'IA dei piloti e la struttura della modalità Carriera oltre che al comparto tecnico, il risultato non può che essere meritevole tanto per i fan della F1 quanto per gli amanti delle simulazioni automobilistiche nel loro insieme.

La qualità del lavoro svolto da Codemasters è innegabile, ciononostante la speranza, come sempre d'altronde, è che in futuro gli sviluppatori decidano di spingersi un po' oltre, perché un pizzico di coraggio in più non potrebbe che giovare all'evoluzione di un brand come questo.

Dopo la grande attesa che aveva accompagnato il primo capitolo, capace di soddisfare una folta schiera di appassionati (un po’ meno i fanatici della simulazioni, che si aspettavano qualcosa di più proprio sotto il profilo del realismo alla guida), non era facile proporre un seguito valido ed altrettanto interessante solo un anno dopo. Senza dubbio F1 2011 non si discosta dal capostipite, proponendosi come un titolo realistico ed impegnativo ma allo stesso tempo accessibile a tutti, forte di un modello di guida divertente e profondo, graziato da una sensazione di velocità eccezionale. Inoltre, tutti gli aspetti criticati nel predecessore sono stati perfezionati se non rivisti da zero, trovando anche spazio per nuove modalità online ed aggiunte, come la safety car. Se avete amato F1 2010, questo seguito vi saprà regalare un’esperienza ancora più emozionante, viceversa difficilmente troverete in F1 2011 motivi per ricredervi. Noi consigliamo, quest’anno a maggior ragione visti i miglioramenti, di dargli comunque una possibilità: il coinvolgimento che questo gioco è in grado di regalare va al di là di modelli fisici perfetti o della ricerca della simulazione a tutti i costi.
